bumper cutting opinions

J03

  MX5 1.8
ok my car has a fat bore exhaust on the back, i bought it the way it is, the bumper has been cut so the exhaust will sit properly...
however it doesnt seem to be a really good job.. like someone just hack sawd it round.. anyways this modified punto did my back end in last week, forced me to buy a new one, so i thought what is the best way to cut round so the exhaust sits nicely, ive seen a few with a rubber edge was wondering what that is? looks good

anyways here some pics...

EDIT: the exhaust is not mounted properly, thats why it looks like its not in the middle of the cut out bit..

Can't you bend the exhaust say the punto did it and get them to pay for a new stealth one or something?

Maybe get a different exhaust as well. :S

Lol!

Other cars wont have better mpg fella, what you need to do is learn how to drive. I get a better average than that in my cup...

maybe its me... but does an induction kit and back box reduce MPG?

anyway back on topic...

a guy mentioned if i want to keep my exhaust i should if the new bumper then let the exhaust sit on the bumper so it wud melt around the exhaust then cut around it, is this a god idea?
thing is the exhaust mount is broke and i would need someone to fix it properly.. please some suggestions?

Just go back to standard, especially if youre selling soon. Isnt worth the hassle of getting the bumper cut/exhaust mount fixed

Christ the V6 gives me 30+ on a long motorway run if I take it reasonably (keep to 2 figured piles of chocolate buttons for most of the time I mean).

Its you... stop revving the tits off it all the time, its a 1.2. No point revving it for running around in. Drive normally and you should see closer to 40mpg. Oh, and reset your trip computer every time you fill up with petrol... it records an average from when it was last reset, not what you're doing at the moment.

  Mercedes C Class Sport
do you ever reset the mpg clock? if you dont itll take a lifetime to move up to economic figures

Personally, if your selling the car soon, go back to standard and leave the bumper alone this time, it'll prob help increase your MPG as well!

lmao haha no its peco.. its ive done no mods to it so dont slate me

no i never reset my trip computer :S never thought about that.. going to do it next time i get in.
the boot floors fine, its more or less a lil shunt, nothing drastically major.. however it did have an impact with a wall a few months back...
wel il drive it more sensibly to see what i can achieve, say change up gear every 2k revs?

  M2 Competition
Sounds like a plan fella. Less braking and accelerating and reset the mpg computer. Let us know what you get! :)

il see what i get.. hopefully better :( i average out £30-£40 on petrol... right ball ache... but partly my fault i guess.

anyways ive got some Red LED lights to replace my current smashed ones... i opted for black at first but seem abit chavish, and i prefere the original design and colour but in red LED's, it should be fixed by this weekend so il update by then :)

UPDATE!!

got a quote from a bodyshop.. £60 to fix the bumper..thought feck that, did it myself.. first time ive done anything to my car so i thought it was a BIG task! anyways here were some progress pics :)

i knew where all the screws were so it was kinda easy un doing them :)

jackd it up and placed the car on bricks... lol

Ah awesome fella! Bumper actually looks much better without the cutout!

Glad you've got the fuel economy sorted :)

  Ultra Red Clio 197
i get about 57mpg on my 1.2 or so the trip computer says... I always try and get up to 5th gear as fast as possible as that minimises fuel use! but might reset it just to see if it goes back up to 50- 60mpg... HOWEVER!! this might be because im still a "R" driver which in Northern Ireland means I cant go above 45mph for the first year of driving! Bet you wish you had that law in Mainland UK!! NOT! lol..

new bumper is lookin far far better! is it colour coded?

J03

  MX5 1.8
57 mpg! before peperami told me to reset my trip computer ive always had it on 28.1 mpg or something lol i was always mislead by how bad the fuel economy was and thought this thing is killing me for money... id die if i cant go over 45mph over here.. lol

bumper is slightly colour coded yes :)

First i've heard of this. I dunno how you can possibly manage to stay below 45 all the time. Amazing! :rasp:

cheers guys!

now as for the lights, you can see ones been smashed so i got myself some new ones. i know not many people would like it but istuck to the original colour scheme and bought these instead of the black ones i wanted before
they look good, slightly better than standard, comes with these led indicator bulbs aswel so no fuzzy orangeness... some reason when i indicate it flashes tad faster indicating there is a problem.. ive made sure ive slotted it in the right place afterall thats what you do right?
any suggestions to as why it does this?
sorry for the night/blurry pictures i only just got back
