Buying a Clio 172... Any advice?

Hi Guys n Girls...

Possible newbie here saying a hearty hello... "HELLO!"

Am looking to get a 172 shortly or possibly a Cup if I can find one within budget. Due to the fact I have 3 cars and this is to replace one that was recently stolen (Fiesta ZS) I wont have a massive budget so will probably be looking at a X/Y 172 with 50k avg on the clock.

Just wondering if there is anything in particular I should be looking out for when buying one, or if there's any servicing work that should have been done on a car this kinda age/mileage.

Also, if anyone's running a car this age and has advice/comments, please feel free to reply :)

Thx

Hello and welcome. Are you related to the pink panther? That aside... the main things to look for are the usual when buying a new car. Check for complete service history, accident damage and make sure the VRM and VIN all match up, both sets of keys etc.

Some of things that people suffer from include, rattly exhausts, tyre wear and dodgy engine mounts.

Make sure you go for a nice long test drive and buy the right car. :) Good luck.

Great car to pick up used really, there aren't any noably or expensive issues to look out for. Hope you can get a gem.

As a guide MK2 PH1 172 - £5500 or MK2 PH2 172 - £7000

There or there abouts, although you can get PH2 for cheaper if you dont mind the milage being slightly above average (like mine). Also note that after 40k they get a lot quicker ;)

Old story... but one of my cars was Panther Black (now Storm Black) and I couldnt think of a username when I joined the owners club... Just kept the same name for here cos i'm fed up of forgetting what name/password i've used for what :)

Thanks for the welcome's guys... nice to see this place is quite heavily populated with plenty going on.

thats for quite a nice one - if your lookin for an older one you might be able to get a bargain - whats your budget?

Budget is probably around £5.5k... was looking at that one a few mins ago... and another that has sold by some guy in Edinburgh sounded and looked like exactly the kinda one for me.

To be honest, i'd prefer slightly lower mileage tho. I'll be doing a few mods straight away anyways, so will keep my eye on members cars for sale... cos it might save me a few jobs :)

Oh... and although this should be the last thing on my mind... the car will be silver. I am fed up of having to polish out hairline scratches and swirlmarks on dark coloured cars!

Yeah, think that's possibly the way to go... seems a fair few people selling... probably be about 4 weeks tho before I am in position to proceed tho...

Wait for insurance to come thru... see exactly how much the tight scrotes offer me... see how much i can add to the fund... etc.

By the way... that tyres poll is bugging the hell outa me. PROXES! Tsk!
