Buying a clio dci 80 with 150k on the clock. will the engine be knackered?

hi

I'm thinking about buying a 2002 Clio dci 80.

Its the dynamique + trim.
it has air con, auto wipers, auto lights, electric windows and sunroof, alarm, immobilisers, new tyres. Full service history. It was a driving school car so it has got dual controls (but they will be removed).

The only problems is that the car has got 150,000 miles on it. But the price is £2500.

the car has got full service history. I presume it must of been kept in good condition as it was a driving school car.
I'm expecting to own the car for about 3 years and will proberly do about another 40k miles.

Do you think the cars engine will manage 190,000 miles? If i keep it regularly serviced etc?

Is £2500 a decent price? Would you buy it if you had the chance?

all adviced welcome and much apreciated.

No problem, engine will do 300000 without a worry if you keep it serviced well.

^^ agree at 150k loads left.. might be worth an inspection.... lot of car for the money!!

I'd pay £2k no more.
My cars the same age spec but 65hp engine and was offered £3.3k 6 month ago trade in.
Assuming the engines been serviced should be no issue mines on 55k and its fine and its been killed more than any driving car has.
The only thing is the engine is expensive to repaire the clucth may have worn (£250 for a new one including fitment or there abotu) see when the next big service is thoiugh cambelts ever 72k and £250 or so then the 72k service is £250.
You can get a new engine for £1.5k from breakers or £550 for a second hand one but the biggest issue will be other bits check whats been replaced dampers and springs will need replacing ball joints and stearing arm joint as well probably thats if you want the ride as it was when new or close to.
Brakes might have taken a hammering so new parts add up (master cylinder £150 fitted or s) new calipers £50 refurb.
Thats huge milage though

  A well built VW
Martin_89 im sure he bought one from a driving instructor drop him a pm sure he'll help might be worth haggling a bit on the price just in case

Do a serch on autotraders.
Theres a dci on there 65hp model with 72 kit and wheels cat D writeoff with under 20k on the clock for £3.3k thats better value IMO.
There even a 02 reg with 100k for £2.6k that a fair few less miles.

You lot are nuts - the K9K engine is a bag of spanners. The heads go at about 75k, the injection pumps are always braking and they need injectors every 50k.....theres no way i would buy a 1.5 dci with 150k on the clock - as for a potential 300k.......yeh right !!!

as above would never in a millioin years pay 2.5k for one of them, theres much better cars you can get for the same price, if slightly older

i wouldnt buy it either. learner cars are normally always screwed, thats why the change them every 6 months! people sliping the clutch, smaing the gears, hitting the curb (knocks ball joints out). i wouldnt touch it, it will cost you more in the long run.

Just another 20k and I'll tell you about the head. Interestingly thats just after cambelt I wonder is some garages are doing somehting wrong so they break 3k later or there abouts
My injectors are fine on 55k and the engines driven hard.
Anyway new /second hand engines cheapish or just go stick a 172 engine then again why take a step backwards in car technology ;-)
