Cam belt change..

Car  172 FF
I'm toying with the idea of having mine done the car is now on 54k, and sadly the service log doesn't show if this was done ..

However if it was, is there a visual check that can confirm that the belt is in good condition and doesn't need doing..

and also I was quoted 600 quid and the "very" likely hood that the water pump will need replacing £200, due to the bearing going under new stress from the new belts.. anyone heard of this before..

I had my cambelt, aux belt and waterpump done for £440, so that seems abit steap.

Yeah the water pump DOES need doing, it certainly makes sense to do it while the belts are off....but an extra 200 quid is way over the top. Mine was done with water pump for 500 or there abouts....shop else where mate.:approve:

some say get the pump replaced as if it busts the whole job needs to be done again.

rubber is funny stuff. if you put an elastic band out in the sun over the summer, it will look ok but as soon as you strech it it will break as it will be britle.

imo even if your belt looks ok, id get it done as if it snaps its a very very costly job to put right

Good point gtruk: getting the job done again is money I could have spent on ECU and Mani Matching etc..

They've just lowered there cambelt prices too. You dont need the waterpump doing. Cam and aux belt will be more than enough, never heard of a waterpump failing on an F4R.

From what I'v heard the pumps are pretty reliable I have no idea how the he'll it comes off the block lol looking at it

Runs off the fanbelt anyway not the cambelt

for the sake of 90 quid might as well get the water pump changed, if it fails its either the head gasket and egnine that goes or the cabmelt and timiing and engine. why risk it for the sake of 2 nights out and a pack of fags :)

Indeed! Shame you live in London, else you could have come to see the Kevs....
