CAM belt

  Clio Sport 182
Hello All,

I need my CAM belt done and I have been looking around local garages and as my local specialist seems to be 2 hours away I need to find one closer to home as I cant take the time off work at the moment.

Anyway I have been ringing around and spoke to a few garages and they gave me the usual £720 and £600 quotes. I then came across a garage who is a French car specialist who has 25 years of experience and he quoted me £240.

I know there is many threads about this but do you think this is correct? The price obviously does not cover the dephaser but that still seems very cheap.

The garage is called Le Car in Cardiff.

Thanks Sean

If he's quoting £240 its NOT the cambelt, and is probably the aux belt (for that price). Therefore I'd avoid purely as they clearly don't know what they're talking about to quote that.

That's what I was thinking. I asked him twice because I couldn't believe it and he said they call them timing belt kits.

Timing belt kit is half that price, maybe he just re-uses the aux kit to keep the cost down, thats pretty daft though if he does considering if aux goes it often takes timing belt with it.

No way is it genuine and both belts, as that is about what the parts cost with trade discount and thats therefore no labour at all.

Go with the 600 quid one.

Ask them things like "You got the correct tooling?", "You done one of these engines before?", "How many seals are there?"

yes i know these are silly questions to ask a garage, But if he/she gets them correct then you will at least have some peace of mind eh.

Yeah I thought as much I will just have to try and get some time off work and travel the 2 hours to get it done.

Thanks for your help its much appreciated.

Yeah I should of asked a few more questions, he did say it was a difficult job. On the site thingy it says he has 25 years experience with French cars. I thought it was to good to be true haha.
