Cambelt change.

  Renault clio grande 1.2
Hi there,

Ive got a clio grande 1.2 y reg fast approaching 70k on the clock and a mate of mine reckons the cam belt needs changing...

I dont belt cars, im abit of a grandad driver really!! ;) but i do long journeys most weekends of around 200 miles.I suspect the belt has never been changed from new as ive got no paperwork to suggest it has when i bought the car secondhand.

What do you guys and girls think??

Is it a case of how longs a piece of string??? it could go at 71k but it could go on till 100k!!! :S who knows?

Thanks

All the best

Im coming across as abit of a dim s**t i know but ive only had a licence 5 months and this is all new to me...Just trying to find a few bits and pieces from you guys on how to look after the ol girl.

What about oil and filter change?? when is that nessasary? I heard national tyres do an oil and filter change for 20 notes? is that right?

Cheers

Oil & filters is supposed to be changed every service (18k) but if you want your engine to last I'd get it done say every 9k. For that price I'd get it done at National Tyres you can't go wrong.

Your forgiven :)

My advice would be to get it booked in for the cambelt and aux change ASAP. A few owners have had thier cambelts snap well before the recommended 5 years/72,000 miles. Personally Id do the belts every 3 years. Rubber deteriorates with age more so than mileage.
