Another top tip for you guys using a 'specialist'. Do a little research on your chosen specialist first, just because they may do plenty of belt changes doesnt make them an expert.....as I found out...the expensive way.

Now I travel from durham to birmingham to see Fred@BTM to get any major work done.

lucky really dude, that you didnt end up with an engine rebuild. I know someone that had a rover diesel... i didnt have time to do the belt for them at the time.... so they went elsewhere, they had the car back.... took it on a run up the motorway... & it mashed a few valves..... anyway, i questioned the guy that had done the work... & he didnt lock the crank in position.
Sure am is i've ran the car for 60ish k with the timing like that as it was done around 2 months before i bought it and its never had an easy life in my ownership, i'd be surprised if it makes it to its next belt change at 200k lol

Being honesty use the correct tools to time them up, but I also use tip ex as well for a quic reference after turning ot over before locking and rechecking timing again, literally only for quick reference when re-locking.

Anyone using tip ex on cars with interference fit pulleys have lost the plot!

I've had no end of them in with tippex or permenant marker on them, my old silver one had the belts done by a specialist in Bristol apparently. Sadly they're all becoming apparent now as they're all due for the second belt change generally.

I have seen a few from specialists on this site that have had tensioners incorrectly tensioned and the timing out.

They're very easy to get totally wrong or even slightly wrong... even the dealers are guilty but you have to choose somewhere though so make the best, informed decision possible and if there are any problems take it back. UK law states a reputable trading company must give 12 months parts and labour warranty so get the paperwork to!

My warranty is very simple; if I've done something wrong I put it right at no cost to the customer... I'm only human and some times mistakes happen but its how you deal with these occurances that sets you apart from everwhere else.
