cambelt problems (local garages)

  Suzuki Ignis Sport
Wondering if anyone can help my 07 1.2 campus sport has just reached 72000 miles which is when the service book recommends I get the belt changed. But I wont be able to get it done for at least another week and i could probably do another 150 miles in that time, will I be okay until then and are there any cases of clios which have went on way past the 72000 without a change?

I can't see it being a problem. You would have to be very unlucky for it to snap. Just get it done as soon as you can :)

What is a reasonable price to pay for all belts (kits), water pump, dephaser pulley and full service? Have been quoted £770, seems reasonable?

Getting everything changed slightly early as the water pump has started leaking, however, can't get the car booked in until next Wednesday, will it be safe to drive until then?

  Renault Clio 1.2
Hey guys my clio 1.2 dynamique 2005 is on 79k and never had a cambelt change. From what i have been reading i really need to get it booked in asap! What price is renault likely to charge and what price would a normal garage be likely to charge
Thanks

Hello I've recently bought a 2004 Clio 182 with 57k miles and no record of the cambelt being done
Can anybody recommend a good specialist in the Wokingham/Reading/Bracknell area?

Thanks Dan but called the number twice now and no response
Anybody know any other cambelt specialists in the area? (Berkshire)

Hi Mike

I didn't leave a VM the first time I called but I did the second.

I've now booked the car into Boxer Motor Company in Maidenhead for this Tuesday. The quoted me £650 for cambelt kit and fitting.
They are also changing my washer pump, airfilter and spark plugs for about another £200 if I remember correctly

My car sounds terrible so am worried there are other things wrong with it so have also asked them to look at that. It sounds like a diesel!

  A special one.
Do they have the correct locking tools and i don't mean Tipex?

Id be taking it to Mike if it was me.

Oh and £650 sounds expensive to me for just a cam belt kit change.

Yes they have the correct tools and it includes the water pump, auxillary belt and pulleys etc
The official Renault service center in Wokingham quoted me £900 so was happy with the £650 to be honest.

  172 phase 1
I'm reading all these cambelt posts and am now kakking myself as I've just bought a 172 ph1 for cheap with no history...
I'm not driving it on the road yet, and was considering doing a DIY job on belts & pulleys (done plenty on other cars) but I ain't gonna risk it now. Thing is I'm skint & it's either a family holiday or a cambelt change, best not tell the missus...!
Anyone know of a reputable place to get it done around northants?

I had mine done at Roger Denton, was a fair bit expensive but the job was good -

However, Dan@519 is in Bedfordshire, I would say that's your best bet.

Cool thanks guys i may just give 519 a call.
As i'm not actually using the car yet i may try and track the history a bit as the guy i bought it off (who only had it a few weeks) reckons the previous owner had done the cambelt & dephaser pulley fairly recently, but no theres no proof.
I might write to the previous owner, and also contact renault to see if they have any history on the car. It came from south wales.
If i can safely delay doing the belt just yet and have the family holiday then I'll save a massive rollocking from the missus! :)

Thinking a head a bit to early next year (the car is on 39k, and it will be 5 years old next year). What about the 1.2 tce 100 (d4ft) engine?

In my mind (I hope anyway) they shouldn't be to bad? There single cam, I'm pretty sure there is no dephaser on them either. I guess you change the waterpump at the same time as is the norm with most stuff. I've done one on a Tu engine, it's just that the engine is a lot more of a tighter fit in the twingo compared to a 106.
