Cambelt/ water pump/ pulley £1k?!

I'm well tempted to just get it nice and tidy and keep it for the odd B road blast tbh!
Every time I see someone on here with a nice BG, I think back to mine.
We shall see, so watch this space!
Have you driven it since getting the new bus ? It will be the slowest, most uncomfy, giant-steering-wheeled heap of shite you've ever sat in

I bet it drives like a sack of turds when you first pick it up.

Get it to a specialist, get the Aux belt issue sorted and sort the poorly installed cam belt (get group N timing and a remap at the same time)

In all fairness a 172 isn't a car you buy to 'have a car's for this very reason. It's all very well looking at it and saying "oh it looks and sounds nice I'll buy it" but you'll regret it when you start using a random garage to look after it.

lol @ cars being 'on the way out' at 100k.

This isn't 1974!
I know! Like I'd be such as an asshole as to sell her a car that needed loads of work done on it....... oh wait?!!

Yep.
I always said to her, take it to a specialist, which she didn't do. Proper false economy when he charged £550 labour for the cambelt/ dephaser/ waterpump/ aux belt job.
My local garage, run by a 172 owner/ lover, was going to charge £336 for labour!

So it's back on the drive after a big old check and run through at Two Techs up in Dartford. Terry mentioned, that it was a nice clean (ish) example, and that I should keep it due to it being so original. Only got the BTM exhaust from Fred as a mod.

As annoying as it is, @TheEvilGiraffe was right, and the car felt slow and sloppy after getting used to the RS4, but that was all motorway driving, so once I got closer to home I managed to chuck it round some corners, and it put a smile back on my face.

Main plans are to get the rear arch repaired, as it had some scuffs from my ownership (wife did it!) as well as getting the alloys tidies up as they are fubar.

Once sorted, it's going to look like a relatively respectable car! I'll get some pics set up shortly, and maybe a small project/refurb page, if anyone cares?!

So what shall I do with this bad boy? Not many bites at £2k on here, and have had little interest on Autotrader.

V tempted to get it cleaned up dent wise/ alloys, and punt on again, but it's spending more money to get money. Seems like a false economy really!

Thoughts? Is it too dear at 2k - it's had close to £1600's worth of work in the last 6 months, including a new key at £190!

Miles/Paintwork will narrow the market. That and i've seen people practically giving them away.

I'd personally reduce the car.

I'd have thought the service history alone would have helped get it shifted, as it's longer than my......

I think I'll drop it a tad more, and see what happens. It's a decent little car, but I don't need it, and I want a new motorbike ; )

At that price imo people don’t care, unless it’s on here in which case it needs to have documented history with fuel receipts.

On eBay the average yoof imo won’t be bothered. The higher end 3 upwards people seem more switched on.

You can pick these up cheap cheap.

£1600 worth of work ? Ouch !

Put it up at £1500 and get it gone.. Should have given it away before you started the work haha !

Or triple the price and cover the advert in red arrows / circles and incomprehensible nonsense.

You could raffle it off... print 500 tickets at £10 each... add a note to say 'unless min ticket number sold, prize and cash will be retained'.

Daily Mail / CompoFace it. Make something up about not being able to sell it as it's full of rare newts or something.

Insurance scam / give it to @Cookie for half an hour.. it'll be on fire either way......
