Can a fucked distributor cap cause your engine to overheat?

  Valver
Took the ditzy cap off today among other things, and its pretty shafted all the contacts inside are totally black and worn and the centre connection is buggered as well...

Question is could this lead to engine over-heating? I heard if the ignition timing is changed it could cause the engine to over-heat? Not sure if it was by advancing it or retarding it :S

just seen your other post, take it to a garage and ask for a block test, should'nt cost more than a tenner (free if they think they are gonna get the work) or if your near me i'll test it for f**k all

Hmm and whats a block test? def over heating spark plugs were a bit white with no deposits so...

Wouldnt of thought so mate, if the timing was changed there would be more noticeable problems, but to be honest, all i know about dizzy caps is that they route voltage to the plugs in the right order, but still, cant fathom why it would overheat the car..[FONT=&quot]

simple bit of kit, put it on header tank and it detects combustion gasses in the coolant and tells you if the block (head gasket) is fucked or not
but an experianced mechanic will be able to tell you in 10 mins flat without a tester anyway, and from your other post (the bits i read) it sounds like its knackered

ignition timing affected more directly by tracking accross a knackered cap
