Can anyone identify this? fell off my car!

basically i hit a bit of a bump in the road and this came off from underneath and made a clatering noise on the road which was what allerted me to it, recently on low revs iv been having a metal springy noise which i think was this possibly loose and now it has snapped off from the vibration of the car.

the metal is quite thin so i think it is soem sort of gaurd, it has a couple of bolts holes but a piece of it has snapped off!

That looks like a wheel archer liner but metal! LOL

Though is probably just some sort of sump guard :)

(Oh, and edit your title so it's less than 85 characters long or people have to Go Advanced and change it themselves to be able to reply! lol)

If it is the drip tray from your gear box all looks well as there is no oil in it..so dont worry about it.lol

Re: Can anyone identify what this is

its very likely to be an exhaust manifold heat sheald that protect the o/s drive shaft boot from melting from the heat of the manifold

Ive never come across one on a mk1, ever! lol

Re: Can anyone identify what this is that fell off my car last night???

you'll find the rest of it attached to the rear engine hoist point.

Its the heat sheild that goes between ex manfiold and oil pressure sender area.

Go have a look, you should have half of it still bolted to the rear engine lift eye.

Alot of people dont put them back on.

Yes, that is definatly what it is.
Haynes lists it as a fuel pipe heatshield, so on that grounds i would get it replaced.
I have a spare.

aye def the mani/oil press guard.

no real problem running without 1. id be more worried about how its managed to rip itself in 1/2 tbh.
