canon goes missing in the post. refund so what to get?

Got my £200 back from my 300d going missing in the post Been browsing on jessops site and have found nikon d40 brand new £299 with £30 cashback.....do i go for this?

i have just been reading reviews about the d40 being a bit dodgey due to lack of built in AF. Will any nikon lens still fit just have a lack of AF unless i bought one with the AF in the lens?

all the AF-S lens auto focus. 95% of old nikon lenses will work, but without the auto focus.

You could always get a D50 if you can find one....

been looking at them but decent ones are out of my price range. Not overly bothered about AF provding i don't have to buy AF-S len' for them to work with the d40

u can get a d50 on ebay for under £250

unless you intend to buy old lenses i don't see it being a problem

went into jessops and had a play with the d40 and 400d....ended up walking out £300 lighter, got a d40
