car dilemma

right, before i start here, i know this will be a biased opinion, i know, so im prepared to sift through the shite to find the replys worth reading

im lloking to invest in a fun car for the summer months, will be a hot hatch, wont cost too much to buy

shortlist i have come to

Saxo VTS
Clio 16v

I DONT CARE ABOUT THE IMAGE OFTHE SAXO!!! lets just get that straight

which one out of the two (ignoring the image) would you buy, and why?

thank you

  LY 200

Clio 16v if i were looking for looks, decent power and comfortability!!!

Slightly biased op tho!!!Lol

Saxo if i were looking for a newer car!!!

TBH tho mate if i were buying again id probs buy a phase 2 106 GTI!!!

Theyre the best outta the 3 imo!!!

Despite this being a Clio forum and the fact i love my Clio it doesnt mean i will choose a Clio everytime.

I cant speak much about the 16v because i have not had a lot to do with one but i can speak about the Vts.

I had one before my 182 and still miss it.Its a fantastic car and probably one of the most fun cars ever.Built quality and standard equipment is crap but i never got mine for that.

Looks wise i love the Vts,performance wise i love the Vts and they handle very well as well.

Put it this way,i always wanted a Vts and was lucky enough to have one.Had i never of had one i would regret it for ever....like i regret never having a Gt turbo.

They are a blast, dont regret not getting one.

One of the best things is that everyone assumes stupidly its just a poxy little Vtr ;)

Its up there with the rare smiley face every time you drive it cars.

Why do people suggest other things despite being told to choose from a shortlist of 2

Thats the point of a shortlist,he probably thought of all the other options hence why he only mentioned 2 and went on to say ......

"which one out of the two"

Vts or 16v Hmmmmmm.....how about an Uno Turbo ?:p

  133/225/CLS AMG

Gonna get lots of biased Clio folk here!!

Both good cars though and the Saxos are popular for good reason coz they drive well.

I do think the 16V would be a good buy as should be a bit quicker but chances are youll probably be able to buy a newer Saxo for the ££ as there are more about.

Best thing is to try and test drive one of each and you decide. :D

Hes aked for an op and lets face it the 106 isnt that different to the saxo apart from well its better looking, more desirable because of the rareness of them and they have exactly same performance stats!!!

He may have forgot the 106!!!Lol

16v or VTS....Umm let me see valver all the way!!!

PS VTS has crap seats!!!:p

in all honesty mr jahooner, id love another uno turbo, but trying to find a good one, is like trying to find a 18yr old virgin where i live, it just wont happen

re: pug 106 gti, i couldnt live with that interior every day, id end up wanting to kill myself, its unbelievably depressing in there (mate has one, and i hate the interior with a passion, including the 1/2 leather)

clue is in the original post

VTS OR 16v

and reasons why

thank you

Ok....

16 valve....I have one, it has lots of pros and not many cons that i know of apart from the fact it was made in 1995 which makes it fairly old!!!

Nice interior which VTS deffo doesnt have...(Leathers always good) Bloody comfortable too

Drives like its on a train track

Still looks smart (no way dated like some cars of its age)

Performance will match that of the standard VTS and will put up a fight against most other cars hot hatch typecars out there bar a few (i said a few;)).

Id go 16 valve out of the 2 and thats not because i have one thats an honest opinion!!!

VTS is crap, someone i know has one and there not what people crack them up to be!!!

  BMW E46 330i Touring

Out of the 2, VTS. But I think the 106 is getting mentioned because it is essentially the VTS but reportedly better, with less chav-factor...

Id go 16 valve out of the 2 and thats not because i have one thats an honest opinion!!! I would choose a Vts not because i owned one and my opinion is biased based on ownership of course ;)

VTS is crap, someone i know has one and there not what people crack them up to be!!! My best mates friends uncles brothers sisters workmates bosses grandfathers grandson had a 16v and said its crap !!!

Well its all an opinion!!!

Yours is againdt mine and visaversa!!!Lol

Noticed you didnt argue the seats tho!!!;)

  Astra VXR 17/05/07

You mentioned leather seats...how can you argue against leather lol

If you forget the leather then the seats in the Vts are awfull....

I simply went for one because of the fun factor and it never dissapointed :D

  Renault Clio 172 Ph2

vts imo. they look nicer imo

driven one 2, was well impressed, loved the rawness, felt like a go kart

never driven a valver clio tho, so i cant comment there

Hmmm not a 16v or a vts again...

you can pick up a half decent williams for vts money.

id have a vts if it was my main car but a 16v if it was a weekend car. Please bare in mind i dont know what im talking about as ive never owned either.

get a 106 gti pisshead. very similar car, better suspension out of the box IMO and minus the chav image.
Exactly what he said. Redlines at 7k rather than 6800 if that makes any stinking difference...

vtss are incredibly cheap now. i think youll get more for your money, i.e newer, less mileage, judging by the prices people are asking for valvers on here.

not sure if theres a reason for the arse falling out of the vtr/s market tho. perhaps they give up after 80K or something

  A SHED!

im not biased ive got both........the vts is for sale! wanna buy? should tell you something about the one im keeping! big up the naples red family of 16vs.

right - general consesus here is the 106 gti is the car to buy, i dont want one of them, they are the same car as the vts. so i dont see any reason to spend an extra £1500 on what is essentially the same car, i couldnt care less about an image

ive driven both, and both are very close in terms of straight line speed, and handling, driving position in the saxo is poo, but it will be one the 2st things change in the car, so even still, id still be looking for a non-leather vlaver to keep the price down (same thing, buckets 1st)

looks, the vts is very understated with enough aggression when lowered to satisfy me, however the look of the valver in any rear view mirror is amazing, the vent adds a different dimension to agrressive appearance

i really am torn between two worlds, both cars have depreciated enough so that whatever i buy, im unlikely to lose too much money in the next year or so, its more a case of which one i find the most appealing at the time

Got to be the VTS, very chuckable and despite the seats is a great car to drive. Only problem would be finding a good one that has been looked after IMO
