I've wondered that. Why on earth is it there???????? Surely it's not to balance the car or something ridiculous like that?

That! But makes no difference when removed. Pain to remove if you have ac. I had to take my bumper and headlight out

you won't be able to recognize it immediately but if you change the vibrational profile, there will be some other issues such as false knock detection. My car is beefed up with stiff engine mounts and that causes some different noise profile road.

removed mine ages ago and no difference what so ever.
