Cat Cams. Choices..... And mapping in the N.E

  White 1*2
Well guys i need some opinions on cat cams

i understand the '428' is a popular choice according to ktec and they run really well once mapped.

im fancying going a little bit further as i wanna do more work in the future.
been looking at the '421' now yes you can run oem parts and its a case of mapping it up however, specialist they say. my mate had a problem with his mapping once he had his cammed, never run right, lumpy.. smooth, flat spots.

just worried incase these are a bugger to run right on a map and better off with standalone

anyone shed light on this and help decide whether i should go for 421s
I ran some lairy cams in my vts a few year back, ran abit rough on idle but it went like fcuk.

Also who is recommended the North east for mapping it? or anyone north, dont mind travelling just dont fancy a massive trip to ktec when im from durham

Thanks
Jamie

When i'm getting mine remapped, i'm going to RS Tuning in leeds, worth the trip and atleast you know it'll be done properly

I would speak to Paul at RStuning about the 421 CatCams... he was looking for a car to fit / map these on (for a very good price as he hasn't mapped them before) :)

yeah 420s they say will run mapped but would benefit from standalone better

think i'll get onto rs tuning in leeds.. not that far to travel really and get some 421s in

choosen cams really because its not a massive fart on to do.. easy upgrade and a dam site cheaper than boost if your gonna do it properly.
may invest in itbs in the future.

Not a massive fart? lol - I'd say in terms of farts the job is a leave the room special curry number

haha the engine is already out mate. painting the bay, and doing belt so its a easy enough job to do while its out if you know what i mean.

engine in the car.. now thats a different story i know lol

428s are fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine!!!

Can someone show an example of the difference in torque curve and bhp between them and 421s? I'd honestly like to see

Good call id like to see this.. and 420s!
im not too fussed about the tick over being smooth as silk i just want abit extra power, but i rather buy the best cams i can without standalone

you'll not get much major benefit with cams alone. When you look at the cost of the parts and fitting, other options make more financial sense. Bit more bang for your buck if you will

just a quick question while we on the subject of inlets... i dont mean to sound like a idoit.. but by anychance do the have rs stamped on them?

just i been a 106 guy for years and know them inside out so clios are new ground.
i bought the car and in the spec list there was 'RS iinlet manifold'

shed any light dude?

Rs inlet manifolds are inlets which tend to be found on all 182's and most 172 cups. They are made better than non Rs ones so don't see as much of a gain from matching the inlets.

In Pauls "live mapping" offer thread, he will map your car UNLESS you have cams (flol good live map that..), which suggest he doesnt have any pre made cal's for cams and cant be bothered to make one from scratch.

Where does it say live? And no i wont be spending hours mapping to suit major changes for £195

I have plenty of cals for cars with cams that we have done but generally they aint even close on the next car.

We were looking for a car to map 421's on the stock ECU and the one that was supposed to be coming has not so if you want them mapping very cheap we will do it!

  Maybe a 172 Cup..
Sorry to go off topic, but what are Schrick cams like with std ecu and live map please Paul??

Edit... Just done a bit of research, and is it right that only certain Schricks can be run on std ecu..

Depends on the profile but they are on the edge of what you can get away with on the stock DBW setup. There are ways to get round things but we dont see too many cars with these due to the price of them!

  Maybe a 172 Cup..
Potential future purchase already has them fitted, but not sure on remap/Fastchip status....
