cat mod & mot

Morning cs!

Just a quicky.. looking to get the cat modded on my 182 as its persistently blowing at the cat-silencer join and my local custom exhaust place cant sort it due to being useless even though theyve tried numerous times..

Will the cat mod effect emissions atall?

Car already smells a lil rich out the back of it on idle (normal?) So dont wanna mess me emissions up

Cheers!!

I had rear of cat amended to 2.5" and it passed MOT without issue. So long as it isnt dangerous (has shards of metal sticking out) and passes emissions then shouldnt be an issue as its fit for purpose. If its already got something wrong at the join and the repair/modification sorts it...should be fine.

Please get pics and details up of the mod though please, be interested in replicating it!!

Sorry forgot to explain that. Think a few members (bubbles was one) have had the section which some claim is restrictive modified so that i think its a sleeve fitment. As in where the cat narrows before the join. Think prospeed have done a few for members on here

Just properly fed up of it blowing..the crappy fixes longlife have tried are lasting less than 24hrs..sounds like a bee :(

Yep...mine was done by ProSpeed. Piers...have a search for threads started by me with prospeed in title...I'm on phone, so cant do it easily.

It turns the 2" outlet from cat into 2.5" so that there is more air flow going out of cat. Unsure if it does anything...but does sort out rear of cat which can blow.

Ahh, for some strange reason (morning eyes and all that) I thought it was the man-cat joint he was looking to get changed. I'd love someone to come up with a solution to that bit!
But I will look at your thread don. Only downside with it for me is I've still got my std exhaust, so that mod would limit the aftermarket exhaust choice.

nope all it does is slow down the gas velocity, you could go really geeky here and bang on about venturi effect etc, but its a clio

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
I've done a few where they've split and cracked on the join. Tapering down to a smaller outlet is one thing for a venturi, but the olive joint is crap no matter how you look at it

It is indeed pants, mine is blowing again when cold only ever so slightly when accelerating, but f**k fixing it again it took 4 attempts the first time, absolute pain in the arse.

well your particular exhaust seems to be the most difficult to get sealed. Angle of the flare has been wrong on all the ones i've seen, and also not a big enough flare so the clamp doesn't have much of a chance really
