Catalytic converter broken down

Pretty sure the inside of my cat has fallen to pieces and it is now rattling around giving me a headache.

I've been quoted £156 to supply and fit by one garage

But another garage told me the OE part from Renault will cost £2000ish and other cats won't fit so best bet is to get a custom one made? He said there is no way it would get done for £156.

Spoke to a company about having one made up but apparently that won't be possible with this age of car.

Not sure where I go next with this, obviously I'd like to go with the £156 option but not of it's going to be another headache. Any advice?

I think a brand new sports cat is in the region of £300 for the 1*2 then there'd be fitting on top if you can't do it yourself. At £156 they maybe sourcing a used one. Another option would be a decat pipe which would be about £60 i think, but then you'd still need a cat come MOT time.

Cheers, it does seem a bit too cheap but I don't mind having a used item as long as it comes with a warrantee. I'll give them a call and see

Try and source a used one, there might even be one for sale on here in the Classifieds (although you need to sign up to be a full member). Fitting it isn't too much of a challenge, can be a fiddle getting it into place, with a lot of swearing!

What car have you got? A standard Renault cat for a 182 is just short of a grand if I remember correctly.

I went for a Milltek Sports Cat. Was £310 delivered from J W Racing.

Just buy a second hand one? I got one for £60 for my trophy and never had a problem with it.

Don't have time or patience to be fitting one myself at the moment so booked it in to fast fit this Saturday. Hopefully all will turn out ok
