Changing 197 Sidelights

just fitted 2 new number plate bulbs as one went the other day

imo, they look much better than the yellow/orange/dull normal ones, which are also in my side lights


my question is, is there any way i can change them without removing the front bumper as i really cant be bothered to take it off.

the drivers side looks accessible

but f**k me the passanger side looks impossible

it looks like the battery surround in the way. would removing this grant me access or is it a bumper off job?

I took the battery cover off, but it was a fiddle, luckily I dont have hands like dinner plates!

I should train my seven year old to change them and rent him out!

Just take the battery and small fuse box covers off and it's accessible. You might find it easier if you unbold the alarm sensor too. It's just 1 10mm bolt.

Also you may find that the bulbs you've put in the numberplate won't light it up sufficiently. Ideally you need some with multiple SMD's.

the bulbs in my number plate were advertised as mk3 led sidelights, would they not be sufficiant?

I'd say they probably won't be bright enough, just based upon my previous experiences.

There’s one in the guides section but you need to be a member to view them. Best few quid you’ll spend imho

I've had a look. I know you can do it without taking the bumper off. Do you have to disconnect the battery and move it out of the way or can you just take the headlight out?

If you need more access and items are in the way, then yes move them.

I remove the bumper when I do them. It’s not difficult to do.
