Changing NAT Type on BT Home Hub

  Mito Sportiva 135
Realised yesterday on my BT Home Hub that my NAT settings were on strict.

On the software on my PC I think I found the bit in Settings to allow "Xbox Live" to be permitted on my open list.

However it then asks me to select which device I want to associate with my Xbox and gives me a list of about 20 connections (I live in a block of flats so presumably all different networked systems).

My questions is - how do I know which one is my Xbox? Is there something on my Xbox which will tell me or, how do I know? Don't want to have to go through the entire list with trial and error!

Thanks!

I had this problem and spent ages trying to fix it and it ended up being my xbox , were you under 18 when you made the account? If you were you need to change your age setting on the xbox to stop it from being strict

No I was 25 when I got my new one lol....thing is I can get into MOST games ok but when in a party it messes up, and sometimes randomly get booted off Live.

Definitely think I need to change my Home Hub settings...

reset the hub to default settings, for an open nat on a homehub you need do nothing... no ports to open etc. Its open by default for xblive.

justy completely reset the hub, i had the same problem when i was on bt i just pulled out the plug and then put it back in,(not the best thing to do but it worked) or just swap up to orange internet where the nat is always open and it is cheaper ;D

NAT type is nothing to do with his isp.... oh and switching ftom bt to orange would be like trading in his motor for a push bike. ;)

Is there a spcecific button on there then? I pulled out the power cord last night, and that didn't seem to work?

pulling out the plug wont reset the hub, merely restart it. Shove a pin or something small enough in the reset to defaults hole on the side if you want to do it manually.

Great argument, ill pass on taking advice from someone who has shown he/she has no clue how a router or the inns and outs of a real ISP work. Fun talking with ya newb.

PS. here is how Orange rates: Orange Broadband www.orange.co.uk/ 315 Reviews 1.1 stars out of 5. Yeah i see your point :p

PPS. If you actually believe you are getting 150Mbps from Orange(or anything close)... you are even dafter than you seem!

Quote from Orange homepage: Fastest download speed up to 20 meg (up to 8 meg in non-Orange broadband network areas).

he asked how he could make his nat open, when my bt home bub was strict all i did was reset it and it would be open, my connection was always strict hence i wanted a better connection than 19mbps as that in simple words is s**t, since swapping to orange i have never had a connection lost and can get full bars even at the bottom of my garden, i was the last of my friends on bt and all the rest of them were on orange, i will never regret swapping. ps how can you possibly put up and argument for 19 compared to 150?!? seriosly so dont go bad mouthing things that are nearly 10x better...

PS TO YOUR PS you want a photo?

Again, no comprehention of how anything your talking about works... you think your ISP has anything to do with your homes WIFI? lol.

love how you've done that as i just proved you wrong ;D owned much~?

sigh.... Owned, Proved wrong, how exactly? you said since you changed to orange your wifi had "full bars even at the bottom of the garden" which is completely wrong in every sense, you then stated you never said this. I proved you did by quoting you, thus proving you wrong and making you look like a spaz... If thats your definition of being owned, then indeed you are an idiot.

i said my signal had full bars at the bottom of the garden which surly means that it is a better connection?

that didnt make sense at all, the point i was trying to make was... with bt i couldnt connect to the internet at the bottom of my garden, with orange i can with full signal i never said anything else about all this other s**t, this was the point i was trying to get across but apprently retards like yourself dont understand simple terms?

It wont make sense to yourself... no.

lol give it up! again with the backtracking.... You STILL seem to think switching your ISP will have any effect on your own homes WIFI... which it will not... simple as that. Im out.

like i said with bt cant connect at bottom of garden with orange can connect at bottom of garden im not saying it effects it im saying that when i swapped i could connect at the bottom of my garden how are you not getting this?

Switching provider won't so naff all to wireless range.

Changing the router however from a BTHomeHub to any thing else will.

HomeHubs are naff. Plus certain routers have better wireless ranges.

i used to have the exact same probelm and although reseting your homehub will sort the problem for a while it will only come back.
what i did was (i oppoligese for the bad info but it was a while ago) basicly i went onto the settings for the router go to the part where all connections are say you have a laptop and your xbox they should be there make sure the xbox is on etc and go onto the individual settings for the xbox there should be something about locking the ip adress do that and your problem should be sorted. well it was for me
hope that helps abit mate

  Mito Sportiva 135
Yeh I know thanks guys but going back to my original post, I've been on the settings but when I choose the device to associate with Xbox I didn't know which one to pick, there were several detected? I dion't know how to find the "name" of my xbox?

  Golf gti ed30+bmw m3
you shouldnt have to do anything to it once its been reset, forwarding ports/application sorting etc will just give you problems. Tick always use the same ip address for the 360 though.

  Mito Sportiva 135
Yeh but I don't know what the IP address is for my 360 though mate that was my issue, how do I find that out? Is it on the menu or something in the Dashboard?

you can get it either from the 360 dashboard, going to settings then network or via the homehub by going to settings, advanced settings then home network tab.
