Good progress on the car, one thing I will say is i'd change that location for the tow eye. Have a look at Icemans project thread, some of the stewards are pretty brutal with dragging the car if you come off and his front bumpers been ripped apart! Not something you really want to be replacing if you come off the circuit.

This isn't an official update, but I thought it was funny nonetheless. I happened to roll the race car out the garage at the weekend and it was sitting next to my road car, looked like a before and after (although the after isn't quite finished yet). And yes, it is just coincidence that I got a 2nd Monaco Blue 172!!

Well, we're about to hand in our Brands entry form.... so, we plan to test it once before that and then just throw ourselves in at the deep end at Brands, see what happens. We're reasonably confident the car will be reliable, just gotta get on track and learn to drive really! :race:

April 18[SUP]th[/SUP] 2012:
The date has been set, we have booked a track day/test at Anglesey for Saturday 28[SUP]th[/SUP] April and we have submitted our entry for the Brands Hatch race on May 7[SUP]th[/SUP]. The deadline is now set, definitely no turning back now! We also had confirmation of our race number…..25, which happens to be how old each of us is right now.
We've completed a few more tasks in the mean time; first of all, a wonderful job has been made of the dash piece. We have ergonomically tested it and we can all reach all of the switches whilst in the same seat position.
A few other jobs have been done; Brake ducts have been finished off with a little deflector plate to aid the flow into the calipers and a cold air box with a feed from the lower bumper has been finished. The box fits just nicely into the space vacated by the battery and also has a mounting position on the rear face for the engine ECU!
We don’t have a great deal left to do now, it's just a case of tidying up loose ends and applying those finishing touches, then we should be ready to go in plenty of time for heading to Anglesey. It's getting exciting now!!

Looking really impressive guys - well done!
In regards to the airbox - is it modeled on an existing airbox? Am just wondering about airflow.

Not at all, it's modelled on the fact that it fits into that space the intake pipe attempts to feed as much nice fresh air in as possible. It's less restrictive than the standard air box, so I should hope to see an increase in performance, although I'm sure it won't be noticeable.

i know the difference would probably be minimal but would you not get more flow if you left the front open to let all of the air coming through the wheel arch straight to the filter it rather than blocking it out by closing it it? tell me to shut up if im being stupid lol, something like this

Thanks Tony, we're still not quite finished just yet, but it will be done on time that's no doubt. Scraping all the change out of our pockets to get to Brands though....looking forward to sticking the car in "Clio Corner"! I wonder if someone will make us a banner

Closing it off and insulating the box will stop any hot air from the engine getting in to the intake itself. So, by leaving an open side will cause it be hotter than we're aiming for. And yes, we plan on making a lid of sorts to seal off the top side of it....

After many hours of scratching our heads over why we couldn't start the engine, we traced it to a faulty UCH, but fortunately, we have a spare car on hand to steal components from! So, we took the ECU, UCH and transponder from the other car and plugged them in…..and away we go!!
Not too many tasks to complete now before the first test at the weekend; whilst Rob tidies up all the wiring and gets things clipped into place, Ryan and I start re-attaching things to the car. Bonding in the rear side windows and fitting the doors to start with.
The front end will soon be back together too, now that Rob has finished hooking up everything electrical around the engine bay, including new oil sensors along with these lighter low spec lights taken from a non-sport clio.
