Good price for some LG stuff mate, won't be a bad sound and it'll give you what you're looking for.

Think my brother paid over £500 for some pioneer stuff when he bought his house!

Silly imo.

thet 360 was brilliant but you're irght they don't make it anymore, a mate has a set, fantastic, was like £250-£300 when they were out. i know that doens't help.

not without spending more no

I don't mind spending a bit more.

Depends how much though.

I just want some decent sound as I am currently using some JBL Creature II's!

Would i be better spending money on a separates 2.1 setup?

id certainly recommend 2.0 or 2.1 but not much use if you really must have 5.1

oh and the subs in these one box av kits arnt really subs they are too small and dont go low enough as the cone is far too small

something like what i have sounds great imho you could even go without the sub for a little bit as teh speakers are quite large for bookshelf ones so have a larger driver than standard

Actually if they hit subsonic frequencies they are technically subwoofers;)

Id still avoid one box home cinema systems though...

What is your max budget? What will its uses be in terms of music / games / movies / tv?

Max budget is not a lot. Seen a few Samsung/Sony systems for £150-£200 but was wondering if there was anything slightly cheaper. Wouldnt mind going second hand either as its likely to get trashed having house parties, etc.

It will only be used with the Xbox for movies and games and I also want to connect it to my Apple Airport Express (for wireless music) which would be best via optical.

well yes but making a sound when you feed it a test tone and all you get is a funny farty noise does not a good sub make ;)

It looks great for the price. It may not give full surround on Xbox but stereo from all 4 corners is fine for gaming.

seriously...go to ASDA...

I bought my 5.1 surround from there about 8 years ago for £50, (thinking the same as you, one house, three lads it's probably gonna get busted) has three AUX in's and an opticle in. Still got it now and it's never missed a beat, packs a punch too...COD4 cranked up got the neighbours banging on the wall lol

They had a very similar one in last week when I was in there getting some foodage...

listen to a decent setup and you will notice the difference trust me

but if you never do then it will do just fine

as a 3" driver in a small plastic box is never going to sound as good as a well made speaker

lol the gf's dad spent just over £2.5k on his surround sound alone and tbh....yes it's better but certainly not £2.5k worth of better...

one from Asda, site says out of stock and tells yous fook all about it but certainly worth a trip in store to see what its like..

oh i dunno maybe he just picked a system that doesnt appeal to you and the sound characteristics you like

possible, I think it's more down to the room it's in...

my cheap one is now in my bedroom which is about 12ish feet square. His one in his living room which is a large rectangle the length of my house and then some, probably somewhere about 25feet+ long so the "satalite" speakers are much further apart from each other..

Yeh Sony Sa-Va 27 or something like that. They are rubbish though after a bit of research.

What can I get then that has 2 optical inputs?

Is what i've got, has a fair few inputs - I've got - Freeview Box, Xbox 360, PS3. Pretty sure you can put something else into it as well. DVD playback quality is also pretty good on my old Philips Plasma (2003 i bought it :O)

i got a 150quid surround sound system and a seperate sub and the low note that the sub can hit are emmense! films sounds quality and so does music! even packs a punch when the eastenders theme tune comes on haha! ;)

Pay for what you get i think with these systems.

Although ive got a sony one in my room that wasnt too expensive about 180 or so. Its great.
