CLIO 1*2 ADVICE PLEASE :)

Hi guys found this clio 182 im thinking of buying just thought id see what you lot thought of it before i drove a good 3 hours to see it, http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...postcode/ts123hp/page/6/radius/1501?logcode=p

everything seems to be ok with it but may be me looking for faults but pic 7 the wing seems slightly different shade of silver from the door :/ could just be me been daft because of the light etc but thought id get your opinions before i went to look, also what about price condition etc do you think its fair ?

thanks in advance :)

Not a bad looking car. Best way to tell the different shade of paint will be in person btw. It could just be light on the photo.

It's cheap. Says belts have been done, you'll want receipts to prove this and make sure some billy bob basic mechanic hasn't done it. If not its gona cost you £500 ish to be done be a specialist on here.

  Renault Clio RS182
Looks tidy enough, nice and standard. My wings look the same in some lights so i shouldn't worry too much! Haven't you seen any closer to home? 3 hours is a long way to come home dissapointed...Good Luck

It's normal for the silver cars to look like that. It's just the angles of the panels being different.

That has no Cup packs BTW.

seen some round here but either high milage, out of my budget, orrrr they wont part exchange, thanks for all your replies btw! and if its not the cup what is the difference with the 182s ? sorry just not an expert on the clios haha :)

You may be onto something with the wing being a diffferent colour, note the passenger mirror has been replaced too.. I would be asking questions and looking for crash damage when you go see it.

yea thats what i was thinking :/ any other signs i should be looking out for ? i noticed the mirror first but then thought anyone can knock a mirror off but the wing caught my eye too :(

Hasn't got wider rear lipped spoiler, anthracite coloured alloys, front splitter, and cup suspension.

Seems to be ok. As others have said check receipts for cambelt change. Price seem fair too although it has no tax?

The advantage of having non cups is there's a bigger variety of coilovers if your thinking of lowering. (bolt spacing on hubs are different. 54mm non cup/60mm cup and cup packs)

You can buy a scoda spitter that a lot of people fit for £15 or treat yourself to a nice ktec carbon one (£100ish) and cup spoilers always come up in the for sale section on here :)

You can normally tell if its been in a crash by checking the date of manufacture rings found on the bottom edge of the wings; they should theoretically match, if it dosnt, then theres a possibility its been replaced.

The wings are a different shade to the doors etc as some of the panels are plastic. Its particularly noticeable on silver cars.

Price seems reasonable but I think 182's look terrible in silver with no cup packs.

Looks ok, bar the tints....

IMO its expensive for a 172, says service history but no mention of cambelt/water pump.

If there isn't a receipt showing Renault or a specialist have done it, I'd want atleast £500 off that £3000 asking price!!

matthew the belt was changed at uk autocentre on 45k the seller told me he has reciepts too. so is that a fair price with the belt done? and cotball looks a nice car just a few too many miles on it for me :/

If it was me and my money, I wouldn't be spending anymore than £2500 on a 172 with belts done...

£2000 without them.

There are soooooo many for sale that are £1500-2500 with belts done and in better colours too.

End of the day it's your money but there will be LOADS in the for sale on here cheaper and better IMO

That's fair enough mate, don't jump at the first one or two you see. You'll get a mint, and I mean mint 172 for no more than £3000.

yeah might just bide my time :) might even be better off selling mine private too :) glad to have joined you lot on here though that 12 quid membership fee could save me a lot in the longrun :)

  Mint 1*2's for sale-
looks tidy & its a 4 plate on 50k- if you have an invoice for the belts etc then 3k from a dealer is about right-
try & squeeze it for 2750-

Check the engine when its running for the dephaser on its way out- is all I would really be worried about-

Other than that looks ok barring the tints

I'd wait for another, better cars can be had for the money. Not a great spec, reasonable price but nothing to shout about...

I'd also be reluctant to purchase a car with tints and an empty petrol tank in the photos [/buyingsnob]

Edit: that is all re the first car!

Give away sign is a diesel-esque tractor noise from the bay. If so walk away, lots of money to put right and potential for big bills should it go completely.
