Clio 1.2 Mark II Project, First Car

Hi there guys and gals, new to the forum so i best give an introduction,

Im James from Southend in Essex, Im 17 and this is my first car i bought for £600, The car has only ever had 3 women drivers and has done 120.000 miles. I hope to get this car looking a lot better during the next few months, don't want to be spending to much as i would like to try and save up for a 182. I have no " Mummy and Daddy " helping me on this car, all will be paid for by me.

The Car itself is a 1999 clio grande 3 door 1.2 8v. seems like a good starting point as i have seen quite a few of the younger members on this forum have them.

Anyway Moving on-

And this turned up this morning -


40mm , wanted to go lower but not have terrible handling, so i did the research and found this was the best option for springs only.

Parts im waiting for in the post -

K&N 57i Kit
Sportex 4" exhaust ( im 17, what do you expect )
Dayco Cambelt kit
Shock compressor tool ( then i can put the springs on )
20mm wheel spacers

And my OZ f1 15" wheels, Kieran is dropping them of tonight.

Oh your the one who's getting the wheels well I'll be driving them up with Kieran in abit don't get the exhaust there horrid drones like mad jut wait till later and you can hear mine, but nice ideas there

Thanks Buddy , Have been looking into getting it sprayed as im not a massive fan of the colour myself, it could be a possibility for the future.

Keep the color, it's original. Better than Gris Boreal (and I should know..). It's a nice color, trust me.

Put a dynamique or other type of spoiler on to it, it'll clean it up.

Also forget the sportex exhaust lol It's silly :rasp: And you will realize it's a waste of money.

1.2 8v = Aesthetic mods only. No point in trying to make it go faster because it just doesn't. Use your money for nice eye pleasing mods and not on time wasting no speed gaining mods .

Looks pretty decent mate, other than the plans you have maybe 172 headlights and colour code. I've got some spare lights PM if interested.

Cheers for the positive comment guys, got the wheels fitted last night, big thanks to Kieran for dropping the wheels off so quickly, also got my air freshener and a few cliosport stickers fitted haha, cant have the car looking nice and not smelling nice, now im just waiting on the rest of my gear to turn up, more updates to come soon

hi mate, im 17 too. did you tell your insurers about the alloys? even though is stressed mine are genuine 182 renault alloys they wanted £120 on an already ridiculous price!

Look for a set of dual optic headlights also! Color coding would look well too.

Alloys make it look 10x better already.

Hi there mate, im going with Aviva on multi-car, and with all the modifications i plan to do i have been given a quote of £2500 with my dad as the main driver. even without the mods they wanted 2100 though, so i thought I might as well pay the extra and have something im proud off.

Look for dual optics, the ones that come on the Ph1 172, just gotta wire them up to your car then.

Hey mate I was thinking of getting some springs and some 20mm wheel spacers for mine aaaand, this might sound like a stupid question but all this talk about spoilers made me wonder. I have a 1.6 dynamique, is there any difference between my spoiler and a sport spoiler, or are they exactly the same? xD

4 inch would be stupidly big IMO but love a non sport I'll keep an eye on this

you can pick up a spoiler for cheap as chips mate, the cup spoiler is best one and is like £150 on average, but then they do one which comes on all ph2 cars and can be picked up for about £20

I have to say I really admire you saying you're only 17, paying for everything yourself and not doing anything stupidly expensive because you're saving up for a 182. Good on you!

Cheers buddy, I would like to think this time in a year i would have a 182 and yeah i have been looking into the spoilers, just going to have to wait for one to pop up at the right price !
