Clio 1.2 or 172Cup???

Does anybody know this clio?

My mates put a deposit down on it and going to see it, it says its a 1.2rn with Cup engine/interior/kit etc but to me it just looks like a Cup with 1.2plates on

And i was sure RN models had sunroofs

andybody know?

Has he HPI'd it? if not tell him to because that car looks very familiar to one that was on Ebay and PistonHeads. Someone mentioned that car was a cat D. The white stripes and orange colouring on the plemum do ring a bell from somewhere.

"Clio Grande RN, 1.1, 3 owners,Not Scrapped Not Stolen And No Colour Changes"
Then Got Another Message Saying " We Have No Records Of X183 YAT Being Subject To A Total Loss Clam By Insurers"?

So Not Really To Sure What The Dealio Is?

Well going off that, the car would appear clean/straight but as T5PHY says if it was an Xreg it'd be the PH-1 (round headlights).

get the Vin number mate... its looks bloody well done if that was a 1.2 grande. Everything is spot on.. theres normally a few tell tale signs but I can't spot a thing.

It would be a 1.2 if its a Grande RN, didn't think they made a 1.1?

Also it is mentioned in the advert that they converted it to a ph2 front end, hence no round style front lights. Something dodgy about no sunroof though

Why would you buy that when you can buy a proper 1 of that money, looks like a shed, and looks bodged to me i wouldnt go near it.

I wouldn't touch it personally. For a start it's ugly, and if you waited a while and saved up a bit more cash you could have a genuine cup instead of a 1.2 someone has completely ripped apart and there's no guarantee that it's been put back together properly.

^^ straight or not i would walk away, would hate to find out there is something wrong when its to late, 1.2's were never designed for a 2.0 engine. If your mate has a crash and something is wrong/put together wrong then he will seriously regret it, if it don't kill him. I can't stress enough how much he should walk away!!

Prob will never feel as good as a real 1*2 anyway, plus i might be being stupid but I can't see why it would have lower insurance, anyone?

Think it might save some money on road tax, but I aint even sure bout that?

Lower insurance because the plate comes up as a 1.2 engine when its put through the insurance system thing.

Yeah but he will have to declare all mods (if he is a law abiding citizen) so then they will adjust the quote for a 2.0 engine with 1*2 hp ? if you don't then you can get in a lot of s**t!! plus i don't like the idea of my premium going up cos someone has just crashed a car which is being driven illegally.

Parker's says the RN/RT version only made up until Jan 2000 and an X reg would be September 2000 at the earliest.

Also to my sees that's always been a 172 never a non sport, can't spot a single thing that shows its was a 1.2

Conclusion: Don't go anywhere near it.

+1, looks very well done if it was a grande. Normally a give away would be the radio antenna at the front of the car but even that's where it is on a ph2:S

If that is a Mk2 Ph1 1.2 RN then its had some serious work, i have an RN and i can see the following changes...

Ph2 roof put on
Ph2 front end: wings/bumper/headlights/skirts
Ph2 full interior: dash/door cards/pedals/seats
Ph2 rear: bumper/bootlid/spoiler

And at a guess a full respray, god knows why someone would do so much to a 1.2, but i'd steer clear.

Edit: either that or its the wrong number plate put on the car to sell it as a conversion as its been in a smash.

Something very very not right here! Even going so far to change the roof??? Then respary the car, then change the front slam to get later face, yeah right!! Save another 500 and get a decent genuine 172 imo!

I may even say I'd inform the police on that one?!?!
