Clio 1.2 TCE 100 - Turbo Flutter?

  Clio RS 200 Gordini
Hi I currently have a 2011 Clio 3 1.2 TCE and I am relatively new to having a turbo (I know its small, but its a nice difference!).

On acceleration from 2nd to 3rd, if I change when the turbo JUST cuts in at 2.2K RPM (Where you can feel the extra pull) then Ill get turbo flutter. If I leave the car idle and put my ear to the BOV then I can hear a slight hissing; VERY slight. Is the BOV a problem and does it need to go in for a check? I still have the manufacturers warranty on the car so money won't be an issue. Another thing is, if I am hitting 3-4k RPM's and I change, I don't get any flutter at all and as soon as I put it in the next gear and start to accelerate then its about a 1 second gap before you can feel the turbo spool up again.

Tell me if this is normal.

Theres usually no lag on them. I own one myself and found my standard recirculation valve leaks, alot. So i bought a Blow off/ Re-circ valve off ebay. So some boost dumps to atmosphere and some back behind the turbo to prevent lag and prolong life. Since its under warranty take it in for a check. Its free at the end of the day.

Also what i did was clamp the little vacuum pipe to the re-circ valve to blank it off and stop it opening. Try that and see if your problem stops. If it is like mine was it will pull slightly better uphills in 4th and 5th and drive a bit smoother

lag is normal on them if its just a quick but of lag between gears like you said.

you will also hear it flutter slightly lower down the revs, again like you explained, all normal

I own one like I said and I've had mine since December 2010 and it has never lagged. I worked at a renault specialist in leeds for 6 ears and drove countless of them and none have ever lagged. They are mapped to drive like an N/A engine, there should never be a flutter as they have the re-circ valve which prevents flutter, flutter happens whenn you let off the throttle, the throttle body shuts and the turbo builds pressure and stalls repeatedly (flutter) but the TCe's have a re-circ valve which means the turbo can spin freely with no sudden stall between gears. All I have done to mine like I said is fit a BOV. Drives better for it. If yours is definetly lagging then there is a fault, my turbo starts pulling me up hills at around 1200 revs max.

ive also owned one and driven loads in various state of tune, and from brand new to 100,000 miles. standard ones will always let off a flutter when you lift off just as it boosts, its the sound of the boost being recirculated into the inlet manifold

Thanks Gents, will be fitting a full cat-back system, filter in airbox and a BOV/DV soon enough!

As above, 7psi normally with up to 9psi on over boost (twingo tce that is but cant see it being different) @Martin_172 did you decat yours, how difficult was it? any pointers?
yeah mine was decatted, it was a pain in the arse! it would have been easier with the drivers side shaft removed but I couldn't be bothered draining the gearbox oil so I just persevered and managed it.

I done it on the garage floor which again made it harder, these days I would just use a ramp!

cheers for that. i didnt have much bother tbh. removed a few brackets, flipped it upside down, removed one of the dog bone bolts and it pretty much fell out. Sounds properly fruity now (y) hopefully picked up a few extra ponies too.
