Clio 1.4 16v Panel Filter Size Dynamique 2004/04

Hello, phoned ITG today but they dont have a fitler that will deffently fit, i need the length and width of the standard filter and they will make me one!

What part of the engine is the filter in the box next to the engine or the box behind the engine and how do i get it out to measure it?

Cheers

its in the box behind the engine. I personnally have a BMC one. How much they chrging?

BMC where from motorsport world?

he didnt say a price but cant be much, there about £25 on motorsport world for the 1.4 one they currently do.

Yeah my BMC is from motorsportworld would be interesting to compare the BMC and ITG.. but i dont have the money atm

sure, take it yo only need outer dimensions, or do you want depth aswell? cause the BMC is about an eight of the thickness of the stansard.

the guy said the length and width from the outside of the surround. the depth might be usefull aswell.

Cheers mate saves me trying to take apart my car tomorrow!

just take the silly renault air feed pipe off and let air go directly into the air filter, save a bunch on I/K's!!!

i took the bit off from point 3 to 2. theres just a hole straight into the filter.

The filter is in 1, 2 is called the Resenator Box. As i've already said, if you remove this box and leave the airfilter open you will lose power.

Gimme a sec and i'll show you what i've done.

Here is one:

The K&N part number is: 33-2194 and they are about £35.

There is no way you want to remove the resonator box and air feed, all you will do is suck in hot air and loose power.

Surely that K&N one restricts airflow as its reduced the area to which the air can be applied?

Hers my setup, which i will admit is a temporary solution:

^^ Thats ok as your wont suffer from heat soak to bad.

The airflow will be better through the K&N, yes the actual filter has a slightly smaller surface area but it is about 4/5 times thiner and is a more efficient design.

Also i would get yourself some grey top replacement coil's, them black ones are faulty and very prone to go. Renault do them cheap as a replacement for this reason.

which is basically mine with a cold feed right.

whats the resinator box do anyway

Its cancels out the resonations casued by the air intake tract (bit like a muffler), basically just gets rid of induction noise and some say it helps your idle due to the bigger expanse of freely available air.

Yep thats a good filter but at the end of the day the main issue with the k4m and k4j engines intake system is the actual air box not the filter. A panel filter does not over come the crapy design and position of the air box.

It rubbish becuase its above the manifold, behind the head, has lots of ribs to keep the noise down and has the 90 degree change of flow direction (this is bad enough in pipe's let alone in an open box).

Aggreed, it is shitty, I hope at some point to have a Supersprint Mainifold fitted along with some inlet work and cams done. For the timebeing I juast Have a Devil De-Cat and a ProSpeed Exhaust

Its unfortunate that there are no induction Kits out there that increase air flow.

There are, make one yourself.

I have a perfectly tuned one.

I just bought the k-tec ram charger for the steel pipe you get, researched the K&N universal filters for one with the right dimensions / flow rate etc, had that imported then just played about on the laptop with the pipe length to get it tuned right. I then sorted out an air feed and all thats left to do is weld up the enclosure.

Heres some pics of where i was tuning the intake and mapping the timing advance:

Job done and check this: (with a temporary enclosure for testing)

VS

Thats a temp drop of about 70.C and remember 10 degrees = 1% gain (roughly and this is widely accepted to be true) so 7% of a K4M book of 110bhp is 8bhp.

If only I had the time! Don't fancy making one for me do ya? :) Now you've got it tuned to perfection!

cheers lads ill send that pic to itg and see what they think. i need some measurements aswell. ill take my car apart next week

Shitters, i totally forgot, been spending all day working on her! I promise some dimensions tomorrow!

ok mate, no worries, thanks a lot cant ring them untill monday. Can u take a pic of your BMC filter?

Cheers

Top Width 140mm
Left Length 175mm
Bottom Width 100mm
Right Length 180mm
Depth 75mm

Looks like this from above:

Depth of mine is about 20mm IIRC

i put my box back on tonight and my car feels slow, it doesnt wheel spin in second anymore on tight corners either, think having all that pipework slows it down,
