Clio 1.6 16v Cold Start Issue

I've having a issue with my 1.6 at the moment, 9.9/10 times I start it it doesn't run the high idle and when I change gear the revs drop off practically instantly and I'm having to blip it when I change gear to keep the changes smooth although it doesn't stall.
Though every once an again when I start it does it what it should and runs the high idle and it also catches much more easily you only have to give the started a quick flick and its started whereas it take a good few turns to get it started when its not doing what it should.
Then when its started its idling at about ~600rpm, not the 1200rpm or so when its working properly

Once i've driven literally 400m it starts acting normally and is fine and it doesn't do anything it shouldn't, I'm thinking the ecu isn't using the cold start map and injecting the extra fuel needed, possibly a duff sensor of some sort.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or is it normal ?, i've got a years extra warrenty on the car because I got it from renault so will be taking it to them but as its not causing it to stall or stop when its doing it i've got a feeling they'll say theres nothing wrong with it so I thought i'd better ask.

Any replies or ideas are welcome and will be much apprenciated.

  • mine is annoying and doesnt run the high idle most of the time i just have to give it a bit of a rev and it goes onto high idle and sticks there for a minute or so.
  • when its dark my lights dim when i change gear as the revs drop off and it nearly stalls
  • i find mine starts ok in almost all weathers but strangely it doesnt seem to "catch" as quick when the engine is warm. always starts 1st time tho (unless just washed....... but we wont go into that)

Yeah that sounds exactly like what i'm experiencing, don't get the lights dimming though will have to try giving it a rev and see if it goes to the high idle.
Still has started on me 1st time so far too so i'll see what happens, will probably take it to renault anyway just incase they are actually useful for once because it can't be right surely ? :dapprove: At least i'm not on my own anyway.

Does anyone else get this or does it seem to be a common thing ?, if it seems to be common I probably will just leave it be.

Well it went back to Renault and had the throttle body replaced under warrenty, all problems solved so far.
Idles perfectlys and gives it a nice blip when it starts now instead of almost stalling.

Just so people know what caused it for me, wouldn't like to have to pay for it out of warrently though, throttle body itself was £250! then there was labour on top.
