  Golf Mk3 Gti 8v
why don't you look on
www.carfolio.com

www.parkers.co.uk

personally think it is a hard choice only because i think i wan a saxo justto rag it round like a little go kart but the intriors are nasty, which leads me to a good question, could the seats out of a mk1 clio [ rsi valver] fit in to a saxo

  A4 DTM/iceberg cup
^^^^ defo! had a vts an they rock for the size engine! group 14 insurance stings abit though for what they are! hence now got the cup for the 40 quid a year difference!

  1.2 MK2 PH2
The VTS is quicker and they are good little cars, the engines go on forever... but your more likley to write it off and its only a 2start rating lol...

clios are clios... id probably go wi a clio tbh....

  mk4 golf gttdi180
yeah it is a bit miss an match what with no glove box

i mean my clio isnt that far of a fiesta 1.6 zetec s so there defo slow

^It is, lol. Clio's are bad build quality, Saxo's are fugging terrible!

  BMW M135i
Depends what your after really, the VTS is the faster car by far but they've got less toys and are far worse built. I've got a bit of a soft spot of for the VTS/GTi but I couldn't live with the poverty-specness.

the only clio ive had that falls apart is a mk1 because of the shody age of design the mk2 phs2 are pretty sturdy but saxos dot even have a glove box they just have a letter box

I've been in Saxos that are finished nicely and clios that are falling apart at the seams after 1k miles.

Overall they ain't that massively different lol, French is French at the end of the day.

My Clio 'feels' more screwed togther though, the steering weight, gearbox, pedals you can touch one by one and the dash is a plasticy, rattly mess, lol.
Mind you though, a well looked after Saxo wont fel dis-similar to a shagged Clio.....

vts's don't have aircon mate.
and as dink says you probably will die or be seriously injured in a saxo, wheras a similar accident will see you walking away.

however being young i'd choose the vts i think, hard choice though.

this one does mate, now your cars if its from the continent and past 2000 most cars have aircon and the saxo does its cool lol
all cars are the paper mashe when you crash the i crashed 1 of my old clios ond it foled and not a single airbag went of reulting in my nose breaking lol

IVE been in this situation, i went from wanting a 172 cup and couldnt find a decent one so ,went to look at a few 1.6 16v's Rsi's and i couldnt find one i liked niether, went and viewd loads and i must say ' I FOOKING hated saxos' but went to look at on and i must say, viewd 4 vts which were in poor nick and i said to myself WTF am i looking at saxo's

anyways went to a dealership just looking around and they had a 2001 vts 60k on the clock with a private reg and fsh mot and tax all for 2k as my dad knows a loads about cars/faults he went over this over and over again and couldnt find anything wrong except for a tiny ding in the door

i was like naaa its nice but i dont wanna be seen in a saxo, had a test drive and it handed much better then the previous 1.6 16v clios and in the end i brought it

this is it

BUT LETS GET THIS STRIGHT, im a huge motorcycle fan and thats my no: choice of transport the saxo is my run about and i couldnt be arsed what people think about them, all i can say is go and view one mate and make your own mind up

im still a clio lover tho :p

A 1.2 16v Clio would be annhilated by a Fiesta Zetec S, a Fiesta 1.4 would also be quicker and on paper the 1.25 nails the Clio.

A 1.6 Clio is similar pace to a VTR maybe slightly slower, a VTS would be much faster and alot more to insure than the Clio. You cannot really compare a VTS to a Clio 1.6 16v.

1.2 clios are faster than that mate, 10-11 seconds in the real world.

Most cars are faster than the stats suggest but you know as well as I do a Zetec S would kill your 1.2.

yeah i know, unless my mum was driving it!
did a vid on my phone of my speedo and it was 10-11 seconds including hitting the limiter in 1st, obviously not the most accurate way but miles better than 13 seconds!!

Well i've had 3 saxos ..... 2 VTRs and now my current VTS.

I also have regular use of a BMW 630i Coupe and Merc SLK at work and so get to apprieciate what a well built car drives like.

The BMW was in the garage getting repaired this week and so i had to drive a 07 plate Clio Campus for 1500 odd miles. All i can say is the driving position was terrible and the build quality in my opinion was no better than a saxo.

I have a soft spot for renaults (my first car was a 1.2 clio) and plan to upgrade to a 182 early next year but the interior on my VTS is much more comfortable than the Clio.

It all depends what you want from a car really ..... all i can say is the VTS is a very surprising car in terms of performance and you dont really understand this untill you've driven one. It really does put a smile of my face, especially on the recent cold morning commutes to work!

I was unsure what to get after my last VTR and didnt think a VTS with its 20bhp & 8 xtra valves would be much different ..... how wrong i was!

As said above you cant compare the two as they are so different .... performance wise you should be talking VTR and Clio 1.6 16v.

Just so you get some idea of costs i get 260 miles to a full tank and that costs roughly £36

Tax is also currently £112.50 for 6 months

The best thing you can do is try them both.

------------------------------------------------

Also as for reliability i do 500+miles a week and have covered 23k since last october ...... its started first time every time and the only problem i've had is a worn ball joint.

get the clio and stick some coilovers on it, theres only 10bhp between them + you wont look like a rudeboy, or in your case....a rudegirl;)

My VTS is completely standard and so not all Saxos need to be Chavy. If anything i see more 1.2 Clios with huge exhausts now

I bought it purely for the fun factor .... if i wanted style i would have bought something different.

The VTS will be quicker than the 1.6 Clio, however the GTI is quicker than the VTS by about 8 bhp..
