Clio 100w halogen headlights ?

Hi guys ,

Im new to this forum and im wondering if anyone can help me ?

ive got a standard 2001 clio 1.4 and im interested in knowing if the wiring and headlight housing can take 100w h4 xenon halogen headlights ?

i have herd talk that 100w bulbs can melt wiring and even the headlight housing itself due to the heat produced!

if anyone has any experience or knows whether the car can support 100w it would be awesome if you could share it
with me :)

Max you are allowed is 55w for dipped beam and 65w for high beam. 100w headlights have a similar strength output to HIDs. Blinding.

Get nightbreakers.

Im very aware that they are not road legal however, im still interested in knowing whether the car is physically capable ?

been running 80w in my high beam for quite a while with no problems. I use philips rally bulbs and they are excellent :)

Take a look at the PIAA bulbs; they’re fairly pricey but great quality. They draw 55w and produce 110w, from memory they have even more powerful versions. I’ve used them on all our non-xenon cars and have them in the Clio.

We run 4x 100W bulbs in the race car (all come on together). Dont run the lights for very long but they have been fine

Yes they are. The law states no maximum W for headlights, only a minimum (30W i believe). The only requirement is to not cause discomfort to other road users.

Not sure where this 100W bulbs are illegal rubbish came from.

So they put 'not for road use' on the packet for s***s and giggles then?

Just for future reference the maximum wattage is set by the ECE who approve headlight bulbs and put the E-marking on. Which is the legal requirement. Bulbs over 65W won't be E-marked.

So in that case if I replace my bulbs with ones out of the 1,000,000 candle power torches then it's still legal? Awesome, brb just gonna blind everyone in my path.

Perhaps you missed the part written in english that states you must not cause discomfort to other road users.

That is the ONLY requirement other than having a bulb over 30W
