Clio 172 - Cambelt change - quick question

  RB 182 & Lotus Evora
Hi guys,

I fully understand cambelt needs to be done at 72k service and or 5 years.

The car ive now got is 5.5 years old and done 50k...so i think its best to get it changed along with the aux belt which seems to have not been done at 36k service from the looks of things...however need to double check that...no harm in spending a tenner for piece of mind to do it again...

Anyway my question is this, i take it you all change the water pump on this service as well? ive seen nothing posted about changing this along with the tensioners etc...so just wondering if and what you guys did....im more than likely going to change it anyway for that peace of mind once again....and also because its porbably a pig to do if it goes whilst the cambelt is fine.

Whats ur guys opinion.

yeah, some clio engines the water pump runs off the cambelt, others it runs off the aux belt (such as the 172/182), either way they're a wanker to change

ok cheers chaps for the feedback, i thought as much....might as well get it done then if the aux belt is going to be changed. saves doing it at a later date.

well cash isnt a problem because if i dont do it, its going to cost me a whole lot more to replace the engine! So might as well get it done seeing as though it needs to be done....over 6months ago

Buy the aux belt kit with the new tensioner pulley and spring. As the tensioner usually go dry and noisey and as your doing it there worth changing for the extra cost in parts.

id assume that if i asked the garage to change the aux belt and cambelt they would be chaning the pulleys to...!

you'd be surprised!

if you get "just a garage" to do it, MAKE SURE they've done one before and have the specialist tools to do the job

^^^yes, i know somebody who knackered a clio as they thought the could do it with out the correct alighnment tools.

saying that i done one on a scenic (same) and made my own tools up out of scrap metal!

Only the 172 uses a none cambelt driven coolent pump from memory the V6 dci 1.2 and 1.4 and 1.6 are all cambelt driven.
