Just use genuine Renault parts all the way and if you became a member on here you could use the trade section

As said renault parts. If it's had one before I'd be a little worried.
It's oil fed so as long as you do good oil changes it should be fine

It switches over at either 1500 or 1800 rpm I can't remember which so constant stop start driving and short urban journeys will wear it quicker. Also hitting the limiter reqularly is not ideal for it as it turns off at 6500rpm but that is much less of a problem for a road car.

If there is any chance of metal in the oil then flush it through and as said adhere religiously to service I intervals with at least the manufacturers spec of oil.

Just means it may need a track day to clear out all the soot and muck from not being used on the open road regularly once you've got the parts sorted. Not much else to worry about really. This engines are quite robust just make sure you look after this dephaser.

My Cup certainly went better after it's first track day on a thankful of the recommended octane. Wasn't faster just felt crisp and clean like petrol engines do when they're warm and used.

Getting one that's done mainly family car duties is a good reason to book a track day and loosen it up properly :p

I've just done the cambelt, dephaser and water pump myself at the weekend, wasn't hard just need to be patient and double check everything as well as use the proper tools. I've got to redo/finish mine as I didn't have new pulley oil seals included in the kit which annoyed me, plus I want to re-time it as its slightly off. The old water pump gasket was a b*tch to clean off.

Edit: BTW mine is a cup too, it is an easier job as a result.
Definitely use genuine parts and tools, got mine from Renault Wolvethampton - a trader on here.

Also, don't forget to order a pulley oil seal kit too, don't want the grief of replacing the pulley without taking the opportunity to replace the exhaust and dephaser oil seals (behind the pulleys) too - just having to do this on mine after I realised the seals are not part of the either the cambelt nor dephaser kit.

U used proper tools and timing is out, first time? No idea why people attempt this themselves rather than using a specialist and getting it done right

Getting it wrong is how you learn. It's a damn site easier than timing Cams in using dial gauges etc because you couldn't trust the timing marks that I started off doing.

yeecup, because after doing it I realised that the previous person left it wrong and I shouldn't have to force the cam horseshoe in at all. Runs fine, but I'd rather get it bang on. You only learn by having a go, guess you haven't then?

Nope. Too many horror stories.

Scare mongering. There is enough advice on this forum about making sure the crank is in the right position, how to equal belt tension, set the tensioner, fit the tools, endless posts regarding the horseshoe tool and prefered torque settings from some traders. This engine is very well covered for those that want to have a go. Just don't wade in unarmed. It's also not really something you should take on as your first DIY task :p

For those that don't the traders have plenty of experience and there is no shame in letting someone with the tools and know how do their thing while you get on with other things.
