mine was like that,renault ended up sending my crankshaft away to be skimmed or sumat as the big ends went,but mine sounded a slite bit more visious

Just an idea. Maybe the big ends seized up and the pulley just sheared under the stress?

I've seen this before pulley colapse means crank & cams are no longer timed right your noise was valves bouncing of pistons, if your lucky no damage to pistons.
I have a complete head you can have for £200 or I may buy your car if the price is right as I have the parts I need to fix it.

It wouldnt be running long if the pulley collapsed. Cam pulley is serious heavy weight. How it broke is more alarming than owt else

Pulley must have come under heavy stress at some point in its life
