Clio 172 Ph2 Flamer project

Picked u my first Renaultsport a PH2 172 with 101k and 12 months MOT after testing a 197 disliking it then going for the cheap and fun option. My daily is a 08 Fiesta ST (up for sale) which doesn't have a patch on the clio even in terms of comfort. I've previously owned a Fn2 Type-R, a R56 Mini Cooper-S and the clio seems a much better handling and performing car in every way from my little experience in my friends exclusive

Few things need doing asap:
Brakes could do with replacing (advisory on MOT)
Gearstick worn
Steering wheel worn
New centre caps x2
Tear in the drivers seat
Marks on the front bumper
Missing front grill
An all round buff up and clean wouldn't go a miss either!

The previous owner was from St Austell and the rear window has cliosport.net stickers so I'm guessing there might be a thread around here somewhere for it? Pretty sure it's on lowered springs. Searching for St Austell It was spotted back in April 2013.

Advisory on 1 tyre and 2 discs. Seat isn't great but I wasn't prepared to pay any more then the listing even with the MOT on. It has the invoice for a new clutch a couple years back and invoice for cambelt but not for its fitting however it does pull well and seems alright. Lots of receipts for previous services and near all previous MOT's with it, better out there but it was 4 miles for my house and I liked the colour :smile: only had the MOT done yesterday.

Bargain then mate. I didn't go see it although it was local but did 'look' at it online. Lovely colour. I ended up with a silver one.

Not many yet, I'm selling the ST then tempted to give the 172 to the Mrs and get myself a Megane 225 providing when I test drive one I enjoy it

100% needs brakes sorting. My polo had more stopping power 😂
Sick though, I enjoyed driving it back lol. Same yet completely different to my PH1

Need to give it a good service as I'm not sure when it was last done however the oil does look near new. Few bits missing from under here to a fusebox/wire cover , a screw from the airfilter that holds it to the front slam panel and the ecu bracket.

I was looking at this car too. Looked very unloved. There's an upper grille for sale in parts on here now.

Does need some tlc,NGK spark plugs, fuchs titan 5w40 air oil pollen and fuel filters all on order. Mrs will be sorting a belt out soon new clutch has been fitted 3 years ago also looking at new brembo hc discs all round.

So this is now MY CLIO new grill has been ordered and fuse cover. Service parts are going to be ordered soon too. Gave it my first proper drive today and i loved it. needs a bit of TLC but i shall get there. shall post pics once ive recieved the parts

he hasnt got rid of it! im his mrs.. this was always going to be my car till i sold my previous one. I had a 04 focus 1.8 tdci and he bought the clio for myself as it was a good buy till i sold the focus.. so now this is mine as the focus is gone

It's on my list to do but will need to do suspension and replace my rear tyre first as I bounce about loads when driving and is very slidey in the wet and moderately in the dry to

What you doing with suspension? Might be interested in the springs if your changing them?

Eventually will need to change them as they are very bouncy so need a smoother ride really

Are they apex springs? Look good. Swap you for my standard springs

I've no idea what springs they are they were on the car when we got it.. I think I might investigate it as I've been told might be the shocks which might need replacing which is causing the bounce need to take it to a garage really

Ask when you take it to get the belts done at least they will know what's actually up with it at a specialist. Rather than trying to rip you off like 99% of the garages out there.
We can do suspension anyway.

with regards to the lights im pretty sure ive got green mold growing on the inside.. rather then it just being on the outside like threads ive seen on here on restoring so might be a bigger job then anticipated.. sigh

either way can give the outside a good going over and see how i get on

So I've kind of sorted 75% of the bouncing by checking the air in my tyres today turns out 3 out of 4 were below what they should be!
Next objective is lights and sort out my sliding rear end!

Yup! Need a new tyre on the back which was borderline legal on mot advisory notice it likes to slide round bends and round abouts and hit any uneven surface it feels like the rear is kicking out or sliding. Rather scary in the wet!

So I've got my car runninh again needed the key reprogramming as the immobiliser stopped syncing with the key and then I needed to pop my fuse back in as it come lose. Gave her a blast tonight and wow I've missed driving her!! Smiled all the way to the cinema to watch Fifty Shades haha

Hi I use to own the vehicle a few years bk been trying to find it for a few years a brought the car for my partner bk in 2005 it had a piper cross induction kit I lowered it on 40 mm lowering springs think they were spax and it also had a straight through magnex system looks like it's been abused a little since then I did upgrade all speakers and stereo but don't know if someone has taken them out the car was loved up until my partner passed away in 2008 if you were to ever sell the car I would buy it bk for sentimental reasons the car was given a complete service and cambelt change when I purchased the car but it only had 20k then hope this helps

Hi there. Unfortunatly ive now sold this car as i was having quite a lot of issues with it not starting and dreaded electrics. I will try and source out the messages from the guy who bought it from ebay though. It had definatly been abused (not by me) as it just seemed so tempermental all the time. Shame really as it was good fun.

Ok thankyou it's like the car doesn't want me to find it lol Every time I think I've found its sold have you any pics of the car when I brought it my partner was the second owner and I worked for Renault so car was given a full going over and all parts were tweaked and upgraded as she loved it
