Clio 172 Promo Van

JCL

  CLIO 172
We have a new product for our customers out next year and I want to use a 172 I have in the shed as a promo car.
The car itself belonged to a member here a couple of years back and I came with a big book of history, some lowering
spring a typhoon intake and K&N filter and some other goodies all taken off by the guy I got it from as he wanted it
standard. I have put the air intake back on eventhough I know peple say its will reduce hp somewhat thats ok as its
not a race car. The front springs are back on and I dont have any pics for a before and after but I will get round to
taking some soon enough.

The end goal is a red wrap with the company logo but in the mean time the back windows are getting covered and
some logos will be going on soon after. The reason for doing the wrap later is that I dont want to get it all damaged
over winter when the roads are covered in salt. A good wash and wax routine will keep the paint in good enough
shape. Some one fitted a tow bar and someone took it off again so I'm refitting it to continue the van theme. only two
more jobs arounf the back and thats to remove the sport badge and fit a dCI or which ever badge came with the 01
van.

Next up is the interior. I am not sure yet how to handle the it. Leave it stock or strip it out and put some buckets in.
Its the only part I'm stock on. Everything works so part of me wants to keep it fresh and comfortable but having it
stripped out means I can put parts or a pallet in the back. Any weight saving would be lost anyway when it loaded.

I did replace the pads and discs as they were past the best before date. The tyres are F1's on the front and something
else on the back. I have to say I'm not a fan of the F1's yet but it has been wet every time I have been out in the car
so I will give them a chance.

So far thats it. I will get some pics up when I take some and keep the thread up to date as best I can. At least starting
this thread means I have to keep working on the car. If anyone has any advice or comments please let me know and if
people want to give out for turning a 12yr old 172 into a van I look forward to that too :rasp:

Its been a month now and some progress has been made. The new springs are fitted and I think that even though they are lower they do take bumps better that the standards. I dont know what brand they are other than they are red.

I'm not used to photobucket so these pics will all be kinda big.

A couple of small jobs needed doing like the rear number plate light had to be repalced so I picked up a sh one and gave it a polish.

I thought the engine bay needed a little something so out came the UHT paint.

The headlights needed a polish up so I got a Turtle Wax Polishing kit and did them by hand. The difference is quite big when driving and it only took an hour to do both sides. Its not as good as a machine job but for
€14 its a cheap fix.

I removed the Sport badge and a Mondell Park track sticker from the back door. At the same time I put on the IRL legal plates as the French style ones might draw unwanted attention.

As you can now see the rear windows were blocked out so I can comercialise (not a real word) the car and reduce the road tax.

Unfortunatly over Christmas someone was driving the car and had issues with not being able to see out the back windows so the covers were taken off. They will be going back on soon as the tax is nearly up and I need to complete the convertion.

Rear seats are out next week and if I can find an original van I will take the floor out of it and replace mine.

The towbar will be taken off next week also. It turns out not all the bits were in the car so the tow bar cannot be fitted.

I sourced a sh steering wheel for €20.Its from a standard car and I will swap over the airbag in a while. The cost of getting my wheel recovered for a couple of hundred quid is not that interesting.

What's happened so far. Well nor much since the last post. The interior was out and is back in, it did a track day, after some new shocks and a alignment it passed its no. (mot), it got some new tyres, pads and groved discs, a service and plenty of washes and waxing.
A change in plans meant that the conversion was put on hold.
