Clio 172 - slow progress project

The lower AFR value should be better in theory as you are running richer at 12.1 than at 12.5. So you should get more power with the KTR box on.
After some talks with Chris from efi and some google searches, the best performance is at 12.8 to 13.5, but is a little risky to be in that range. Best safe output power is at 12.4 to 12.5. Running richer by only using another intake doesn't mean less air on the same injector duty cycle?

That's true and it may point to the fact that even changing the airbox may mean you'd benefit from a remap. Both figures seem a little low but that may be down to calibration. The difference between the two figures is what's interesting.

I don't have acces to a dyno run, as it was mapped remote. I could only see the afr from my car and the differences. In theory the ktec should run leaner. I bought and ph1 airbox, I will also test it.

My (best) solution for fitting ph1 airbox using silicone hoses. I have a bigger tb so stock ph1 hose does not fit on it. In this case I was forced to use a 70mm ID silicon elbow. Using just one the airbox fits very tight and I did not like that. Start searching the forums, but no solutions to fit it like on a ph1.
For this I use a 90deg hose and 45deg one and paaaatience.
...two hours later...

Some great updates on here mate. I somehow have managed to miss a load of your updates. Its brilliant you have a go at doing pretty much everything yourself. Car has really come along and looks great! I know it's not easy for you to get parts out there too.

I am not normally a fan of 182 replica exhausts, but really like that. How did you find the spoiler to fit? All looks very smart 👍

Hi there!
Thanks a lot for appreciation. I could not find anyone that could help so I start to work alone and I am very happy. It was not that easy to work alone on the engine, but I managed to get it done without any left screws :))
The spoiler is the one from Italy, with 2 lines on it instead of 1 like original Trophy. In order to fit it right, you need to enlarge the holes from edges (two on each side) to 10mm, or using a dremel tool to be more precise. Them some small M6 screws and thats all. It does fit fine if you enlarge the holes, impossible otherwise.
Now I am waiting for a Clio 200 Renault Sport badge to fit it on the left side:).
Cheers

Nice one. Sounds very similar to my replica spoiler. I also enlarged the holes on mine and fits well. I much prefer the brake light and style of the trophy spoiler.

Add the "Renault sport" badge and test fit a cambelt protection. It does need some small adjustment because the aux pulley does touch the plate, but not a big deal to solve.

Hi,

This year I will start working on a new engine on my Clio. A complet 197 head with a mod to fit 172 engine block, forged internals, 197 crank and...a turbo:)
For start I will run an ED turbo at 12 psi to see how it will be.

I will update soon with parts and other work.

Ready for summer.

Almost all the parts for turbo conversion are here:

ED turbo with Kinugawa actuator
Ebay turbo manifold
197 fuel rail with custom return pipe
PMS regulator housing
AN10 oil return
AN4 oil feed ED
ED water feed
Efi boost module
ED downpipe
KN air filter
ED pipework with 135 degree silicone for 197 inlet
Catcams camshafts.
Custom clutch

Missing:
Forged internals (not a must for 270-280hp, but would be great to bore to 83mm and have a perfect cross hatch)
Gearbox with quaife and ph1 final drive
Timeeeeeee

Hope everyone is home and safe.

Paint some parta for a better engine bay look.

Some strange thing, the aux pulley does not have rubber inside, it does have metal bush and acts like a fixed pulley.
That one was on my previous engine and done around 40k miles without issues and using aircon.

New cambelt kit for turbo engine
And black intercooler. I know it is not that effective, but will look great.

I choose Gates cambelt kit because of the metal idler pulley instead of plastic.

Just finish the fuel rail end for adding fuel regulator.
Replace the seal on a steering pump and polish a bit the shaft on the seal end.
Port a bit more the 197 inlet for adding 65mm tb. Not a must , but I have a brand new 65mm tb

Put connector for brake booster direct into 197 inlet
Put AN4 fitting for oil feed
Install walbro 255 fuel pump into ph1 housing.
And get 6meters of 6mm fuel hose for return. Now the fuel system is ready for boost:)

Not much work this period, but is something :)
Gt2560r...and a pillar pod :)
now I am thinking of the best and reliable engine to build.
Does anyone have a reliable setup for a 1bar max pressure?
like what rods, pistons, bearings and so on.

Thanks,
Radu

I managed to buy all parts for the turbo setup (I hope so), pictures soon.

Wossner 83mm pistons
Pec rods
197 cylinder head and inlet manifold
197 solenoid (not sure)
Custom Clio 197 fuel rail with return line
3bar fuel regulator
King bearings
Supertech valves
197 valve springs +1.2mm washer (because of Supertech valves)
182 cams
ED exhaust manifold with 10mm studs conversion
GT2560r turbo
Kinugawa 0.8bar spring actuator
Walbro 255 fuel pump
480cc injectors
63mm downpipe
Efi FIM and map
Custom clutch
Custom intercooler pipework
Custom oil feed
Valeo old style cast impeller waterpump (it should help cooling)

Does anyone have for sale an aluminium fuel rail? I did not like plastic one with thread in it and the ph1 one does not fit 197 inlet.

I will try to take the engine block to a machine shop for boring to 83mm next month to can start working on it.

I will use a 1.2 steering column and an eBay kit controller box and also I will keep the AC. Aux brackets are from and old Kangoo that has AC but no steering pump.
I just want to remove the fu***** aux tensioner :))
Pics soon :)
