Clio 172 suitable speaker suggestions

  RS Clio 172
Hello folks

I picked up a 172 recently, the right hand drivers side speaker has a buzz and its winding me up so I have decided to replace the speakers, I have a nice Pioneer head unit and I can live without an amp/faff, I just want to get some decent hi fidelity speakers that wont break the bank, just here fishing for suggestions/recomendations/experiences ?

cheers

Matt

Cheers mate

Those look ok and the price is v reasonable, how is the quality do you know ? also I'm still not familiar with car as work has left me with very little time these last few days, but will I not need rear speakers also ?

If you're not using an amp, the standard rears will be fine.

I've not got the Pioneers yet, but I would do when I've got the spare pennies, they're supposed to be pretty good.

There are some Hertz Deici (SPelling?) which are supposedly a bit better, but more likely need dash-off tweeter fitting (no thanks!).

In fairness, the standard stuff is OK, I use a sub tube and use the filters in the headunit to cut bass to the speakers.

Hmm,

the pioneers do look like a good way to go,I'm pretty sure to get the tweeters in it'll be dash off ? from memory it looks like the tweeter grill is part of the dash :eek:S

I must admit having dug a bit deeper on the website you linked I am in lust with some Focals.....

Hmm,

Don't suppose there is a wee guide herebouts ? here's one for you, assuming I may wish to go with something other than the pioneers we know that fit , will I have to get all the other speakers out and measure them before ordering anything else ? I'm a little confused, not having done more than a head unit swap before, this is the first car I have really wanted to invest the effort in and get 'right'

I think I'm looking at either Focal , pioneer or FLI , just have no idea what sizes I should get to actually fir the car, the speakers in the front are buried in the door and the dash and tbh I have not had a propper look where/how the rear speakers are located, I prob have a budget of maybe 150 - 200 quid for a full set front + back & tweeters (that should be more than adequite right ?)

also in terms of soldering things under seats , is that everything ? I have a round blue a flat brown and a boxy grey connectors under the seats, solder the lot ?

Cheers

Under the seat? Shouldnt need to get there.

There are panels with slats in covering the speakers in the door cards, these just pop off then the speakers are held in with 4 screws so really simple to do. There is a guide to removing the dash top but you need to be a full member of the site to see it.

£150-£200 is a good budget, should buy you some top quality speakers. As has been said already though, I wouldnt bother with the rear speakers.

I wouldn't bother spending £100 on speakers unless you're going to use an amplifier, in all fairness.

The tweeter covers twist off and you can get the tweets out with the dash in situ. As for taking it off not being a big deal, fair enough, but I dont have a box of tools, a garage or any skill to do so, so it is kind of a big deal to me :)

The woofer covers squeeze off, no problem, then 2 screws and the speaker is out.

You dont need a garage, a box of tools or skill to remove it!

I got mine off outside my house last friday in the dark with one torx screwdriver! Still, doesnt matter if you dont need to :)

Bleh, cant be arsed with the faff, Ill prob go for those pioneers, i'm certain those + my pioneer head unit will be a marked improvement over the stock stuff.

just curious why not to bother with the rears ? (happy to not spend cash if no need)

Lol, the dash does not look like it would be much fun to remove but I have not really looked at it so far .

Thanks chaps :D

Can I just ask why you need to disconnect the dash tweeters? I've got a set of Infinity Kappa 52.9i components with the dash tweeters still connected and it sounds fine? Would I notice anything by disconnecting them?

  Listerine & Poledo
Well, the Infinity tweets are likely to be better quality than the OEM ones, if you can be bothered, try them. Besudes, you've paid for them too!

As for the rears, they'll easily hack a 4X"60"w headunit, the OEM kit isn't all that bad at all. You could change them but you'd do better to spend the money on sound-deadening your door cards instead.

Sorry, they're not component speakers! they've got the built in tweeters (car audio noob). Will having the dash tweeters running with the inbuilt ones cause any damage or audio quality loss? I'm running uprated speakers up front with cheaper uprated rears through an Alpine CDE-112ri headunit.

I've sound deadened behind my front speakers with some Vibe material, which made a nice difference to the bass I found!

  Listerine & Poledo
they'll be fine, you've basically got 2 tweeters on the go at the moment.

But to get the most from your new speakers, probably worth disconnecting the dash-tweeters

  Listerine & Poledo
rubbery stuff that helps stop your panels rattling when you turn up the volume.

:)

Just to clarify, I'm no guru on the subject. MT AUdio is your man for genuine AV knowledge :)

  RS Clio 172
Well in his absence, you'll do :D

I'll get some when I fork out for the pioneers , hopefully the instructions will be helpful yes ?

I bought some sound deadening material from Halfords, I think it was about £15 for 2 medium sized sheets. You basically just line the material on the door behind where the speaker is placed. I'd definitely recommend it as it made a good difference to my sound! :)

Thanks for the answers Goodj!

Right, well I ordered them Pioneers today .... they dispatched super super fast, was very impressed by that.

Now I'm on the shark for some cheap sound damping ? wont carpet work just as well or am I missing something ?

Take a look at this

SOund deadening pack

Should be more than enough to sort your front doors out.

EDIT: Insofar as the fitting of the Pioneers, they'll be the easiest upgraded components to fit, they'rew made specifically for the renault fixings.

Let me know how it goes though, interested to know how easy it actually is.

Like I said, your main problem will be the tweeters in teh dash, be prepared to use course language as you tease the buggers out

  RS Clio 172
Well you chaps have helped me out , least I can do Is review my experience, so I'll let you know.

They look like a decent product, and the fact they are designed to actually fit the damn car pleases the N00b within.

Im a home stereo audiophile nut anyway so I'll know if they are any good.

yeah, them tweeters , I have looked at the dash , how does one remove the grilles ? tried a gentle investigative attempt last night but no joy, do they pop off or something ?
