CLIO 172 THAT RATTLES

  Golf 1.4 TSI

Not sure what it is but when you rev the car past 4000rpm it makes an awful rattling sound, cant seem to pin point where it comes from but it sounds like the noise is coming from near the front underneath the car. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what it could be, as usual the renault dealers dont have a clue?

mate - I was in your position about 4 months ago, and had a look through the posts and found out what it was.

basically do a search for the "4k rattle" or "exhaust rattle" or something like that and youll see the results.

In short, it is a problem that most 172s encounter with the midsection of the exhaust - get it replaced under warranty.

funniest post i ever read was by one guy who had his misses driving the car while he had his head stuck down under the seat and in the passenger footwell, tryin to find the noise!!! Cant remember who it was but i cracked up at work and everyone wondered what the fook was going on

is it a buzzing noise that happens when the revs fall back past 4k ? if so its the mid section of your exhaust and if your car is still within warranty the dealer will fix it foc, its common ave had mine replaced and a few others on here have too

cheers mate, lets just hope the renault garage can fix it. my mate has a 1.2 dynamique nearly two years old and all his electrics went, took them three months to fix it and it still cuts out while doing 70 in the fast lane, hope i dont have to many problems with my 172

nah you should be alright, normally if you experience any problems they tend to be little niggly ones, 4k buzz, noisy seat rails, rattles, airbag lights on, nothing serious and all usually sorted by the dealer pretty easily
