Clio 182 Buy or stay well clear? please help

Hi Guys hope this is in the right place.

I've just been looking at a Black Clio 182, 1 owner @ 38,000 Miles

Lovely and clean inside and outside has two scuffs that wouldn't take much to get out.

Bad bit is there is no service history as the car has come from head office and the person has emigrated :S so I don't know what has been done or what hasn't?

Also steering seemed a little heavy, comparing it to my 1.6 ph2 is that normal?

It's advertised as long mot, but hasn't been done yet so not sure if any advisory's needed.

Such I stay clear or would it be worth the gamble?

Appreciate the input.

Try calling Renault to see what services they have carried out...
Also ask if you can take it to a specialist to have it checked over..

Steering could be due to under inflated tyres or alignment!

But this and service history should be reflected in the price.

Renault don't hold Service history (well they didn't when I was working there) it's only held at the Servicing dealership.

Cheers for the replies

£2695 was the asking price, said he wouldn't budge. Checked all the tyres and pressures seemed fine and with the steering wheel straight both seemed ok and stayed straight when driving.

Maybe due a service and fluids needed doing?

I've never bought a car without FSH. if I bought it what's the worst that would need doing? Cambelt, brakes? any other usual s for that mileage/ age (55 plate by the way)

  Passat
Could need anything mate. I'd want it a few hundred quid less if it were me. Definitely a cambelt if there's no previous record of it.

ill probably get slated, but FSH means diddly squat to me when buying a car, its easy to fake and really doesnt mean its a good car, what does some stamps in a book and some scribble actually guarantee you . I bought my clio with zero service history, just a few receipts here and there, basically factor in for you price you pay, you will have to do the basics......belts, fluids and i think you wont go too far wrong, unless its obviously a shed!.

Can the cam belt not be done for cheaper? Tyres where all the same make.

I'm more swaying to think its been looked after properly its clean in and out, the seats are some of the best I've seen. no rips or wear on the bolster and it's been the same owner since new.

I'd imagine this car to sell at around £3500 if if had FSH and the belts done.

Yes £3500 is probably right however it will cost you that with belts and service and it still wont have a FSH... Id be wanting to pay south of 2K...

I do agree that service history can be faked however it does add to the value as many people want it..

Any pics?

So really, I should avoid and spend the money on a car that has the FSH and knowing what work has previously been taken out ie cambelt, dephaser.

Here's a few pics

Looks tidy but theres plenty about, Im sure when the right one comes along you will know..

Looks average and asking average money really without any history needs £500 adding for cambelt which makes it strong money imo, mileage isn't everything personally id walk away but that's my opinion !!

Doesn't look like its been cared for to be honest !

And lets be honest there's no shortage of clio 182s for sale !

Your call mate if your happy and dont mind spending a few bob to get a good car then go for it ! you could make it a nice car it has potential !!

It wants the belts inc dephaser doing so add on £600 quid + service if there is no history. As said before the OEM exhaust may well be on the way out too. That's near enough £4,000 inc purchase price and you have no idea what else may need doing to it. Personally i would steer clear but it's your money.
