Clio 182 Dilemma - Trophy or 182 CUP packed?

HI,

I'm in the market for a 182 and have come to a bit of problem in that i'm not sure whether to go for a Trophy or 182 with both Cup packs.

I have seen a couple of new (one pre-reg, one unregistered) 182's with both Cup packs, the pre-reg one at £12495, the other unregistered one at £12995. I guess my first real question is what I should be paying for either of these two cars? My gut reaction is about £11495 or am i being too ambitious?

Secondly, I have seen a number of Trophy's for sale (3 in my area), for between £12495 and £13495 - again what's a realistic price to be paying on these? The cheaper two are 05 plates, the more expensive one is a 55 plate and comes with a 'Trophy' plate. Mileage on all three is between 4k and 7k.

From my point of view, I quite like the luxuries of climate control etc, but as both cars are pretty similar in price i'd like to pick the one which will be worth the most after 2 years of ownership - i do about 10,000 miles a year.

In terms of what i have for £££ i have my car (which i hope to get £6000 for plus about £6000 cash - which needs to cover my insurance and transfer of my personalised plate (about £300 for both).

Any thoughts and advice gratefully received!

I had a Cup packed 182 then moved to the Trophy. For me the Trophy is better, but it's compromised in that it's no where near as comfortable. You need to try them both and decide what's most important to you.

Both cars are fantastic both on road and track.

I wouldn't say its a harsh ride. Firm yes, but not uncomfortable. I did a trip from Yeovil to london and back the other day and I got out feeling fine.

It is, but there's a big difference in what's good and what's comfortable. It's 100% composed and stays nicely in contact with the tarmac, it doesn't crash into pot holes or roll around through the bends. It's nicely damped, unlike a CTR for example, but it is stiff, for an out the factory road car it's very stiff.

The seats are also pretty hard compared to the standard ones, which adds to it. They are fine for long jouneys though. I drove to the South of France with no aches or pains.

Get the Trophy you know you want to.

Compared to the seats in my old Clio the Recaros are so much more confortable like Lee says, long drives you can jump out of the car, fresh and no pains.

One thing you do find is the ride is a little bit more harsh, but hit bumps in the Trophy and the dampers just soak them up without making the car roll or pitch. The amount of time you can make up when driving on country roads is amazing, i have so much fun driving it, the only thing i hate, is when it comes to wallet out of pocket to pay for the juice i have used LOL

Watch out for that raped trophy one of the dealers is selling, its spent all its life on a track. Probably better to buy from a enthusiast whos had it from new because then you know its been looked after.

thanks for all of the replies guys, gonna start with the dealer selling the 55 plate Trophy and try arrange a viewing and test drive for Saturday and also see how negotiable they are with regards to the pricing as it's a tad more than i can really afford.

It's also the closest to me - the others are about 2 hours drive, worth it mind you but not if i can sort something out on the one closest to me

Incidentally, would it be considered a sin if i were to get the rear bench re-upholstered to match the front seats? Just something i'd consider if i got a Trophy, but not if i'm gonna get slated for ruining the best Clio yet!!

Nothing wrong with that in my opinion. The different cloth doesn't bother me so I don't personally plan on getting it done, but some people have looked into it or got hold of standards 182 rear benches.

There's nothing wrong with swapping the rear seats. Not that there's room for anyone to sit in them though. lol

TBH you will spend more time having fun in the drivers seat,

my advice is stick with the standard seats and spend the money on a decat/ecu upgrade or strip it out and fit harnesses

You on about a 'Trophy' style number plate or the 'Number xxx/xxx' plate? If the latter, then all 3 should have one?

Can't comment on a 182 with all the goodies but I swapped from a 182 Cup with cheap seats to the Trophy and I've not regretted it for a second. Trophy all the way mate.

Trophy all the way. You have got all you need in the Trophy and to be honest never even notice the rear seats. On a major plus point you get the Recaros.

that is one mint car - however I have a part-ex which just isnt selling and that is preventing me buying this one - i need the funds from selling the car to add to savings so i can buy it

i've just had an email from the previous owner in response to a couple of questions i had - it would seem the stealer is trying to make a very hefty profit on the price! Time to haggle some more i think.

Do you reckon it's worth putting a refundable deposit down as i can't get over til the weekend?
