Clio 182 restoration

Hello, here’s my clio 182 I brought it of my best mate who’s owned it for 10 years and last 5 years been sat on his drive.

Currently restoring the rear end

Hopefully putting back together on the weekend more to follow

Yea the mains bits went back to bare metal rust converter and then buzzweld products

Yea at first I thought that but I was surprised that the chassis was pretty good condition.

I see you used SSL Horbury to do your calipers - I've had a few set's done now and I'm always over the moon with the results, and especially for the price they charge.

Took this picture a couple of weeks ago however I had them done over 3yrs ago now and they still look like new.

I managed to get most of it back together still waiting on some parts to arrive.

Looks dodgy on those stands but was solid

Around the fuel cap will be getting cut out and replaced.

Also will be getting some coilovers when decided which ones, anyone got suggestions?

Next job take the engine out and strip/powder coat everything I can.

Not sure what to do with the engine yet was either going to take engine dynamics full rebuild or do compression test and turbo.

Yea they do wonders, they did my Del Sol and they still look fresh today.

I really love seeing these cars being brought back to life, however as I’m sure you will be finding out it is not an easy process and that’s before all your hard work in scouring the net every day to find the parts let alone the cash needed.

Top work from me -

I went a different way with my underneath as we used Gravitex to coat it and then wax oiled in every hole on the hottest day of 2022.

Yea was surprised how hard some parts are to get, feel easier getting parts for my 1995 del Sol.

that doesn’t sound fun, lucky when I was working on it wasn’t that hot, I’m going to put some Bilt hamber dynax UC on top for some extra protection.

Epic epic restoration fair play. Just umming and ahhing whether to do a full on mine. It's nice and clean but inevitably hiding some gremlins underneath.

Do you have a cost ceiling in mind? On accounts of you doing it yourself that obviously helps but I'd be interested to see if you have a target price in mind?

haven’t done much lately put new head liner in and new seat belts, got steering wheel on the way. Just waiting for the interior parts to come back from paint.

Going to start on front end next, taking the engine out might send off to engine dynamics to be rebuilt will change engine mounts, updated rad etc but anyone recommend me doing anything else that’s a must?

Interior nearly pretty much done, Been waiting for my steering wheel/boss to arrive that I brought back in November from K-tec

subframe been sent for powder coating, got the driveshafts and steering rack to send off for refurb.

Next up take the engine out and start refurbing the arches etc

Pretty much need/want to replace all
Bolt’s does anyone know the best place to get replacement??

Theres a thread on here somewhere that details all the bolts for most of the suspension / engine area so you can purchase from anywhere.

You can get all the bolts cleaned and plated if they are not to badly pitted, I was £20 for all mine to get done from a local industrial coatings firm. The front subframes are galvanised from factory so that would come up good with a good power wash/strong cleaner.
Powder coating anything on the underside is fine if you dont plan to run the car through the winter months, if you do then avoid at all costs as it just falls apart after a few years due to stonechips, thats my experience anyway, I'll never powdercoat anything underside of a car again.

Yea that’s currently what I’m looking at trying to find a company to do it. Any chance got the details for that company?

I won’t be using the car much, this will be another summer car keep away from the salt for sure.
