I've owned a Trophy for the last year.

On a twisty B road or mountain pass it's simply brilliant. It's also comfortable enough for long motorway journeys, although the low speed ride can get a bit annoying after a while (quite a bit crashier than the 182 FF I had before).

I used mine on the track for a season as well, and apart from a blown gearbox (my fault) it performed perfectly. Entertaining enough to keep you engaged, nervous enough for a bit of oversteer, yet plenty safe enough if you're just getting into the track day scene.

I found running costs to be very low, even with 15 visits to the track and if you keep it in good condition and don't put too many miles on it, it shouldn't lose anything to depreciation.

Things to check:
-Many of them have needed their front dampers servicing (400 quid)
-Cambelt, aux belt, etc
-FSH
-Signs of abuse (many of them have been used on track) - get a full history of the number you're looking at from www.cliotrophy.co.uk

What other cars are you considering?

yeah just about.

its a 55 plate with 40382 miles on the clock

was just that or a cupped 182 or a R26 but i drove a megane sport 225 and it was "boring" i like high reving action

The whole Clio Trophy damper issue is b****cks TBH I've done 50K in my car and providing the shocks have been jet washed after using them on salted roads there fine.

The Sachs dampers were never meant for road use so the seals are not the same as road ones but if you clean them regularly you'll be fine.

On a 40K one obviously check the Aux belt has been done at the 36K service and apart from that just the usual checks.

PM me if you need any further advice.

My mate bought his R27 after driving my Trophy coz he loved the Trophy so much. He drove it again a few weeks ago and said if i didnt have one and he had to have a second car the Trophy would be it.
IMO i would rather have the Trophy, more fun :).
Mine is on nearly 80k now and i havent had any major issues, just ball joints and exhaust mounts wearing.

Good job you clean your car every 5 mins then ;)

I'd go for a trophy over a R27 tbh.

I've never driven a R27 but there is a big difference in price between them. 7k ish for a Trophy and 10k for a R27. Are you just wondering becuase you have had a R27 before and wanting to compare or are both cars an option?

I've driven both, and TBH I prefered the trophy.

Same basic checks as any 1*2 tbh. I'd drive the mintest one you can before buying, so you know how it should feel.

If you'll be regularly tracking, I'd get a 182/172.

Overall, Trophy is the best standard road car I've owned.
