Clio 182 - Trophy difference's?

  BMX
Hi, I'm thinking about buying either a 182 with cup suspension, etc or a Trophy. The one thing that I have noticed though, is that you can still get a 'better' 182 (lower mileage/lower ownership, etc) for a few grand less than a Trophy.

Other than the wheels/tyres and seats are there any other significant difference's between the two and is it possible to retro-fit parts to a 182 to make it as good as a Trophy?

Thanks guys

The trophy has different sachs suspension . Also has no xenon headlights whereas the full fat 182 does . No aircon iirc in the trophy .

No, the trophy does have standard aircon, just not climate control.

The main selling point of the Trophy are these:

yer the suspension has the own resoviours , and some better front seats. but tbh i couldnt justify that cash for them 2 features. you wont be able to geta 182 and buy them shocks as there too rare. but could allways opt for coilovers

The trophy has the trick dampers, bucket seats, V6 spoiler, and IMO is a very special car. If I had the cash I'd buy one over a normal 182 anyday: massive ability and kudos. Besides I would have thought a trophy will hold its value and suffer less depreciation in the long run due to being limited edition.

Depends what you want from your car. Theres not alot of diff in looks and 182 edges it on equipment.

Yeah, you're looking at about £1300 for a pair of the Recaro trendline seats and subframes from Demon Tweeks and a set of trophy wheels without tyres will be around £600.

I looked into getting a Trophy too, but ended up searching high and low for a 182 with cup packs and recaros and am over the moon with it. As I understand it, Trophy suspension is pretty hard and VERY expensive to replace (not that it should ever wear out). As noted before, Trophy has no climate or xenons, but the sound system is also not as good. As for residuals, the Trophy remains a specialised piece of kit, so will probably hold value better (as you are seeing with trying to buy one!)

There's a 182 with cup packs and recaros on pistonheads...

oh, and the Trophy has the v6 rear spoiler, so the boot does not open all the way up, it opens to just the right height for you to take your eye out on the corner of it!

I'd still have a trophy over a 182, even if it did have the rare recaros though.

I'd advise against retro fitting parts to a 182 to make it like a Trophy, it's no better IMO than taking an old 1.4RT and trying to make it look like a Williams, and you don't wanna fall into that catagory when you already have a 182! Will also b*gger up re-sale as if someone wants to but a Trophy, they'll buy a Trophy, which is probably what you should do if you want a car that looks and smells like a Trophy!

Hmmm, yeah valid points guys. I guess I need to give it a bit more serious thought. Maybe if I got a 182, I'd always be thinking I should've paid a bit more and gone for a Trophy.

I'd go for a normal one and get coilovers personally.

Get the Trophy, end of.

The seats make a huge difference for a start, but the wheels and suspension really do make a big difference to handling when you start getting silly. Throwing out all the heavy stuff also means it's a bit nippier. There is air con, just not climate control, no Xenons, but do you really need them? Stereo is a bit poo, but the standard fit on the full fat isn't exactly Alpine's finest either though.

In terms of the residuals, I was recently offered the same amount I paid for my Trophy (new) in trade in against a 197, I think that sums it up.
