Clio 197 paint quality

  Westfield, 182, 200
What's the quality of the paint like on your Clio??

Just bought the wife a 197, I know the front bumper has been sprayed (albi blue) but looked over the rest of the car and the paint quality is c**p and there's no way the whole car has been sprayed.

Our 182 is a little better, but my TT is almost perfect by comparison!

My 182s s**t TBH, It just looks grainy up close and peely i had considered relaquering it, Comparing yours to an Audi though lol.

You wont have looked at new 5 door polos i take it, Now id be seriously pissed if id bought one theyre shocking, seen a fair few vws from the factory recently and you can actually see through the basecoat

Hi

It's slightly orange peely, but there's lots of nibs in the laquer.

I did an apprenticeship at Land Rover in the 80's, and spent a few weeks in the paint shop, and that me a bit critical of paint on cars (anal more like!).

The 197 has little nibs on every panel, probably only 1 or 2, but i was surprised on a 58 plate car. I found 2 nibs on the whole of my 53 plate TT, and my 10 plate VW van doesn't appear to have any?!

Love the Albi blue though, even if it's the wife's!

I have a mk3 clio and every panel except the bonnet has orange peel effect to some degree but the rear quarters are the worst for it , its never really bothered me though because its only noticable close up

If there is little nibs, bits of crap under the panit then i would say its been resprayed at some point.

Not necessarily. I've found dirt nibs in the roof of all 4 brand new Clios me/my mum has had, I'd highly doubt every single one has been painted.

Every car that comes off the production line will have defects of some kind (pinhole, popping, craters, seeds etc) its just a case of them being picked up on inspection and repaired.

Different manufacturers have different standards for what is acceptable and in what area of the car.

If someone on inspection has a bad day then defects that should be repaired may get through.

From my experience most French cars are near enough gun finish with a quick de-nib and polish, german cars are quite similar just more laquer, japs like Honda are the worst though for coverage, just enough basecoat to cover and near enough one coat of clearcoat :)
