clio 197 steering wheel

  RenaultSport clio V6 mk2
Hi all.

I am not a member as yet, but regularly read your forum pages with interest.
I own an Iliad Blue Clio V6 which is a joy to drive every time I get into it:D. Over the past few months my "Bus like"(same as 182 I think) steering wheel has suffered the same deterioration of the sub standard leather (if it is at all leather),that most of you guys have been experiencing. I was thinking of going down the after market route of fitting a Momo steering wheel (either the race or fighter), which looses the airbag, but I am now interested in fitting the steering wheel off the new 197. I went to brands hatch at the weekend to watch the BTTC and parked not very far away from a very nice looking racing blue 197 ( including recaro race seats, red brembos, and carbon front lip spoiler).Anyway, I had a look at the factory steering wheel and it looked so much better than mine. It was smaller, chunkier and just looked more purposefull all over.
The question I want to put to you guys is would a 197 steering wheel fit staight onto a 2004 Mk2 Clio V6. I have been to my local Renault dealer in Enfield (North London) this morning, where the parts guys were very helpfull in looking up the part numbers and prices for me.

197 steering wheel - part number :8200316984 @ £317.62 incl VAT

Air bag unit for above wheel - part number 8200363630 @ £155.20 incl VAT

Total cost :- £472.82

The only thing they couldn't tell me was whether or not the wheel would fit the older V6. I would like to know 100% please, if the splines on the V6 steering wheel shaft will match up to the newer 197 steering wheel.

Any help or comments regarding this topic, will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Kind reguards, MarkV6.

i thought about this when i had my 172 cup, itd make the whole drive much better.

id bet they dont fit tho, thatd just be too convenient, lol.

This has been asked before on another forum and the answer from a Renault guy was a definite no that the splines are different due to them changing steering column manufacturers.

I'd go aftermarket tbh, but that would mean losing the air bag (a fair few v6 owners have done it though) Or alternatively I think some aftermarket manufacturers sell air bag steering wheels, people like momo etc ought to do them.
