I have been looking for a 1*2 for a while now with intention of fitting my 1.8t engine. i have seen a few nice black 1.2s and 1.4s on ebay and i was wondering if the engine mount setup is the same as the sport models. if so id be aswel going for the lower spec car which will also keep costs down

yes mounts are the same, 172/182 has a gearbox to subframe mount that the lower spec cars dont but id imagine you could just drill a hole in the subframe to use it anyway, however cant see that being an issue for you since you are using a different engine/box.

suspension/lower arm/arb setup is different but can all be swapped over if needed

exactly this, mk1 and mk2 engines will all fit into the mk2 bay but the track for the sorts is considerably wider due to larger wishbones/arb etc.

also the rear beam will need to be changed also as the 1*2s have a much stiffer antiroll bar welded through the middle than the non-sports (though theyre identical to the eye)
