I saw three Clios at the ring yesterday, one Ragnotti, one Cup and a regular 2.0 Sport. That is the most Ive seen there since the Cliosposrt visit at Easter!
Hopefully Ill have mine there for next weekend...I had an S3 this weekend whose braked lasted only 6 laps!
Understeer wasnt a problem. Wimpy brakes were! Just a bit too exciting. The S3 actually handles pretty well and the engine is fairly strong. The car is too lardy though!
I was there in a grey Kellerman M5, with nice loud pipes ! We even got Sabine to do 6 laps in it which was an experience. Tyres that were new now look a little worn, brakes are AP 6 pots so no problems there !!
We fitted a uprated rear anti roll bar, shame really as the car would not oversteer, Sabine did try and just managed to kill the front tyres. Her control of the car was nothing short of amazing, around Showboat and Brunchen with one hand waving at the crowds with the other. The traffic was bad though, same as always the bloody bikes getting in the way and not using their mirrors !!!
It was a shakedown for the CannonBall later in the month. The rear anti roll bar did its stuff and kept the back so tight it meant you having to use the front to get in corners hard, not good ! Getting Sabine to drive was a publicity thing as the car is being sponsored for Sight Savers. Its being covered by alot of the press whilst on the CannonBall including a couple of high speed runs in Africa for the BBC ! Given the right road it will top 190mph !! Fortunately it has AP brakes that Sabine loved !
Did you see us ? We were only there Fri and Sat, I didnt see any S3s.
The Ring Taxi does a set of tyres a day and is serviced every day. Its only kept for 6months and then disposed off as the damage to the chassis is quite severe.
Even at £50 a lap it makes no money but is a good pr excercise for BMW.
Spotted a silver 928 in the car park with nice front end damage. Sabine said there was a meeting of Yanks and she had been asked to do a lap in a 928 but turned it down, M5s only for that lady !
