Clio Ownership: Fantastic

It never really occurred to me until today, but thinking back my Clio ownership days have been amazing...

1999-2003 - 1996 Clio 1.2 RN

My first car, bought on 66,000 miles and driven every day, finally sold it on 105,000 miles. Serviced and MOT'd every year and absolutely fine every time, never had a single issue with it. Covered 40,000 miles.

2003-2005 - 2003 Clio 1.2 Dynamique

Bought new (never again!), never in for any warranty work or had any problems with it. Covered 25,000 miles.

2005-2006 - 2003 Clio 172 Cup

Awesome, apart from a slightly flakey steering wheel (leather started to ripple) it was 100% perfect in every way. Covered 19,000 miles.

So 7 years, nearly 100k and never once experienced a breakdown, leak, problem or whatever else. In fact I took it so much for granted that just one week of non Renault ownership I have a breakdown and don't have bloody clue what to do!

Anyone else as lucky as I was?

I've had two clios.

First one 1.2 RN Prima, engine blew up :), sold it to local garage for £100.

Second one, 172 Cup, needed new gearbox (warranty thankfully).

Would I buy Renault again, hell yer the Cup was just so much fun and VFM.

Hadn't had any problems with a renault until I had to spend a weekend living in the garage rebuilding the gearbox on the 1.6, the old 1.2 took some abuse and never complained though. Other than that no problems to speak of touch wood, will definetly be buying another one will be 182 time next.

Mine is a pain in the arse tbh. However I love it and im going for more punishment in a few months when I replace it.

It shall be a faster pain though! lol

Cracked engine mount, MAP sensor, Second Lambda, ABS sensor and a wheel bearing. All in 4 months......
Makes me smile though so it's all good!

Well i've only had my MK2 172 since last december and covered 14K in that time, and touch wood only had small niggles/ problems with the car.

Next car probably going to be another Renault, i quite fancy a Megane F1 early next year.

bodes well for me :) only got mine in july and put 6k on it already :( but touchwood no problems so far (apart from the badger incident but that wasnt the car's fault). long may it continue!

  172 mk2 Iceberg
well i have had two clios so far
1.2 for 2 years and 172 for one year
both .. touch wood no breakdown problems

  Clio 1.6 16v Dynamique +
I had a 1.4 RT Alize for 3 years. Got recalled during the first year for a potentially lethal throttle problem. Had to take it back a few months later with a gear linkage problem (dealer reckoned it was going to need gearbox work and would take over 12 hours. Got it back 4 hours later). I complained about the steering for nearly two years, they couldn't find the fault, got written off due to steering problems two weeks after its first MOT. :(

Now I have my 1.6 16v Dy + . So far it has only needed a new hazard switch after 3 1/4 years of ownage. Touch wood , I have got a good one this time. :D

I've never broken down - ie: my car's never been undrivable (apart from twice where it took about 15 mins to start the car).

I've covered 87k in 2.5 years (20k in a 225; 67k in two 182's).

I've had to have warranty work on the 225... some on the second 182 too (which was never quite perfect after the temp sensor became faulty).

I suppose it's been alright... I'd never buy a new one again though (£££ wasted).

I have had 1 renault a 182 from new loads of problems. Never broke down but brakes faded once coming off the motorway.
