Clio smoking quite badly

  Clio sport 172
Hey guys , I've recently signed up to Clio sport as I have got my first Clio 172 sport . everything has seemed OK with it other than a few minor faults. Having never driven or been in another Clio 172 I'm not 100% sure but I would say mine seems fairly under powered . Also recently I've noticed it seems to have quite a lot of smoke from the exhaust . the smoke is white and fairly consistent whilst driving . It doesn't seem to be using any water or oil but does feel like its running slightly lumpy , again I'm not sure how they usually run . does anyone have any ideas of where I should begin with diagnosing this? Or if anyone in Bristol fancies meeting up and having a drive in it to tell me what they think compared to the power of there's ? I'm quite used to turbos having had a fair few golfs so the drivability is very different so it may just be that I need to get used to it . it needs the cambelt doing too but I don't really want to pay out for that until I'm sure its nothing major causing the smoke .

*Steam.

Oil is blue and fuel is black.

Unless its doing an Uncle Buck impression... Don't worry about it. It's cold.. Water is part of the fuel/air burn output.....

It's fine.

Yea that was my first thoughts but its quite heavy smoke and side by side with another Clio 172 the other day mine was certainly smoking a hell of a lot more . how lumpy do they generally run ? A may just give it a full service and see how it gets on with the mot in a few weeks and go from there . would still like to see another 172 to compare with on the power side of things though :)

If it's not using any coolant - where else would the water be coming from ?
It's cold - steam is more apparent in colder weather.
Is it the standard exhaust still ?

Are you doing long or short journeys ? Does it ever get properly hot - like a 30+ minute drive not at 30mph .. is there still steam billowing out of it after a long run ?

PS how overdue is the belt ? Don't mess about - if that goes twang, you'll have bigger things to worry about.
PPS .. go see Daniel.

As has already been said the other 172 could've been warmer than yours. They all produce steam, in fact all cars do especially apparent in cold weather. It's fine. But as you've only just had it a see I e wouldn't be a bad thing unless it's only my just been done.

  Whichever has fuel
I took a standard 172 exhaust off last week and no word of a lie, about a gallon of water came out of the silencers.
And that had just been driven 60 miles to get to me!

Yea your probably right , it does a good 40 min journey every morning but as always with Bristol it doesnt get much over 30mph always seems to still be smoking afterwards . the cambelt isn't technically over due at all if you go on Renault's time frames but reading through a lot of forums people are saying to get them done well prior to 70k . I'm in whitchurch Daniel

Whitchurch?? That's the wrong side of the river for me my friend. I need a passport to drive all the way over there.
