Clio sport 182 poor performance ????

Hi everyone I'm new to this forum but came on to pick your brains about possible problem ??
ive recently bought a clio sport 182 2005 I'm very happy with the car it drives nice and so on...
my previous car was a subaru wrx but decided to change as petrol bill was killing me ...
driving back from buying clio I was quite surprised by lack of power when I had my subaru I had many clio sports race me and couldn't really shake them but I get the feeling it wouldn't be the case with this clio it has only done 64000 miles .... Have any one got any suggestions to what could be causing loss of power I was thinking of getting a good service maybe new spark plugs !

Firstly welcome

What's the service history like? Belts been done? If it's not been done by someone who knows these Clio well then the timing could be out.

Could just be your driving style coming from a WRX!

You have to thrash the tits off the Clio to go fast...

Drive it like its stolen. Then after a week or so if you still don't feel its right, take it to a specialist to get it checked over.

Timing can* cause these to run bad but so can other things.

Also turbo torque makes a big difference.

It's has part service history not had one for 2 years tho .....
also not sure about the belts I'll have to take it in have it checked I realise coming from a wrx I don't get the initial kick of the turbo torque a few times in my wrx I couldn't shake the clio off my tail it feels in this one it pulls well straight off but the seems pretty flat after that thanks for all the info people

Not been serviced in 2 years and not sure on belts? I would get it booked in for the full works pretty sharpish if it were mine. (hope you got it for a good price?)

Hi yes paid £1900 for it the car seems mint had it put on diagnostic it only had cruise controll fault on it .... I'll get it booked in for service ASAP. Better safe than sorry

Just checked I have a receipt for timing belt kit done on the 18 th feb 2013 so looks like it's been done

if you boot it in second does it give a nice kick of power just after 5k revs?

I was thinking about new plugs never thought about coil pack tho I'll look into that ... As far as power kick I seem to get a lot of early power first and second but once hit about 4000 revs seems to be pretty flat in 5th gear at around 6000 revs I'm get about 100 mph it's struggling to get much more .... Like I said if I floor the car in first and second the front wheels will spin but slow after

Is there any way to check coil pack fault without buying new one don't want to spend money if this not the problem sorry for all the question as this is my first clio I'm a bit in the dark :S Also the last service has ACEA oil only ticked the service before that has has spark plugs ... Air filter .... Fuel filter ticked .....

Sounds more like the timing is WAAAAY out to me ? Or you've got a non-RS 2.0 from the Scenic (?) lol

Where do you live ? Take it to a specialist off here...

Hours labour and the cam seals at the end need replacing.

If your concerns that your Renaultsport Clio is under-powered are based on the fact that it feels slow compared to your old turbo Impreza, and that when you used to go up against other Clios you couldn't shake them, maybe your car is behaving perfectly normally and you just need to adjust to N/A, and they could have been modified turbo Clios, who knows?!

Get it checked over at a specialist all the same, and report back with your findings! Good luck.

Saying that there is more than enough competent members on here able to check the timing,and a fair few have the correct tools. Maybe someone in your area may help?

Yeah could very well have been modified clios ... I'm going to get checked to have piece of mind I'll report back with finding when I get some answers cheers
