At the time I remember trying Hankook V12 and Michelin PS3 as a replacement. The higher speed rated PS3 were good but the PE2 were still better IMO.

Could be marketing b****cks but I’m sure I remember Clarkson saying the 182 was one of the cars the PE2 was developed for specifically.
You're right. The Michelin pilot sport pe2 was developed for the 182. Best tyre I've used for the road.

Focus RS Mk2 has also risen over 5k in Cap in the last 12mts ( value based on 69k) but peeked last month and has now come down £1400 this month - a lot of people are still spending COVID 19 money but it will not last forever 0D2AF018-1B8B-4F6E-A304-9D31A819C28D.png

Like someone posted earlier- they were at such a low base to start off with when they only Capped at 3k
Also Collecting Cars have done a great job in achieving good prices this year from People who want to purchase one.

Hello everyone, just thought as I run Pitlane Performance i'd respond to a few bits on here!

Glad to see the majority of people see the potential of Hot Hatchbacks, interesting to see some people not enjoying the rise in value of these cars even though they own them! But there we are, everyone is different!

Also, 205 GTI's are a good comparison to the PH2 Renaultsport Clio, the 172 in comparison to the 1.6 and the 182 to the 1.9..? But what 205 GTI is comparable to the 182 Trophy? As a Peugeot 205 & 205 GTI enthusiast 🤓 / owner, if there was a 205 GTI that was improved and limited run of 500 the original low mile cars would be worth a huge amount in comparison to the normal variants.

I hope I can look back on this post in a few years and kick myself for all of these sales!
So there is a few things that have came to light on the trophy forum.

There is 4 prev owners and not one.
The car has rear CUP dampers sprayed grey / silver , it’s not on original 182 Trophy Sachs dampers but has the Twingo R1 60mm Sachs dampers that had been bought from a group buy on the forum.

All be it it does have trophy Speedlines from Renault but they are the second edition wheels with all the casting marks and not the OE factory spec ones.

So for a car with 29k on the clock where is the genuine factory Sachs that start with part number 8200 and not the twingo Sachs that start 77111.

Also why has all 4 wheels been swapped for the later edition alloys from Renault and not the genuine factory ones without the casting ?

Either way it’s a stunning car but for me I don’t think trophy’s are a classic yet.
Give them 10/15 years when people are driving around in electric minis and corsa’s and then see.

Then imo you could class it as one of the last best N/A Hothatches of all time.
Unfortunately, people seem to be confusing this car with my our 1 owner Trophy that we sold in July, we never listed this car as a 1 owner example.

From understanding the history, the original dampers got replaced with the new Sachs dampers instead of getting the original set reconditioned, I can completely see how this happens and a collector would do this.

My 40k mile 1 owner car that had been garaged from day 1 had corroded wheels, they weren't kerbed, but corroded. Previous owners of this car have been very very fussy and I can also imagine they got replaced with new at a similar time. Ultimately, If you order new wheels from Renault and you're told they're identical (which they 99.9% are) and the markings are the only difference, I genuinely didn't notice until someone pointed it out to everyone on the Trophy Forum.

Appreciate your kind words, it is indeed a stunning example and do completely agree with the comment about them not yet being a classic. But collectors are snapping up the cars now before they get the 'Classic Status'. It's a modern classic and will go down in history much like the E46 M3 CSL is against the standard E46 M3!

Spraying the dampers is a bit devious.

Also, is having different dampers front and rear not going to impact the balance? Or can they be setup so it doesn't matter?
Hello, this is stated in the advert, we're genuinely not hiding anything with the rear dampers! I would never do such a thing, we know these cars throughout and people have exceptional knowledge on these now. I've been an owner for 6 years and I continue to learn things on the Trophy!

Good point on the front - rear balance, ultimately many people run this set up due to not being able to get the rear dampers, there are aftermarket choices but they wont look OEM, hence the grey rear dampers with stickers.
Car wasn’t worth it when it was 10k, 15k, 18k, let alone anything above 20k.

Rear shocks is a bit of a cheek, no one who’s going to buy and invest will spot the wheels.

Save your cash lads and buy a 172 cup, much better car.
We are advertising them as cup dampers, I'd agree if we had the car listed with 'New Sachs front & rear dampers' that would ultimately be fraud!

The low mile cars are now being snapped up by collectors and each enquiry so far has been in mind of the car going straight into a collection.
Guys, you’d do best to throw CAP in the bin. It’s fairly useless in the current market anyway. But trophies and other cars of that ilk they don’t have any meaningful data to provide any kind of realistic valuation, so it’s based on algorithm. I’m due a catch up with my mate from CAP over the coming weeks and I will ask him where they are getting the pricing information from, but I wouldn’t be reading too much into it.
Ultimately, CAP is only relevant to huge franchise dealers. I sell a huge amount of 'Enthusiast' cars and have not once used CAP, because it's wrong for my business. We compare against similar cars on the market and previous results.

Being able to supply and help start other peoples passion with renaultsport is a great thing to be able to do and i'm happy to be in the position to do this!

Same as mine - but my rears are black - I'm been told they where made by Renault to the same spec as the original ones but where manufactured 7/8yrs later.

Exactly the point I was trying to make really. Folk are into some weird perverted s**t. It’s amazing some of the hobbies people have and the reasons for those hobbies. Have it with cycling, I have been a Mountain biker for years. Recently the sport has exploded in popularity, bikes now are mad money. I own a bike that lost price when new was around £8k, I paid nothing like that for it. I want an ebike now, but some of them are like £13k and sold out! Which means people are paying that. I find it balmy, almost pricing me out of the sport. It’s a funny old world.
Not car related but similar theme. Swapped my 1978 Gibson Flying V for a "trendy" Charvel Grover Jackson with a Floyd Rose tremolo in Candy Red. Thing died after 2 years. Go try and buy an original 1970's Gibson Flying V. I also had a white RS Escort, Sierra Cosworth 500, 205 GTi, 309 GTi and a Black limited edition Escort RSi. Sold em for peanuts. What a fookin idiot i am 🤣

Surely you must be able to understand that point of view?
That's ultimately like saying you would be disappointed that your pension pot / investment portfolio is increasing in value? That's how I see it, feel free to educate me if i'm not understanding their point of view :)

Mine hasn't been bought for investment purposes and I use it no matter the weather, but i'm surely not unhappy that it's more than doubled in value since I purchased it?

I'm of the mindset that I want to keep driving these cars for as long as possible and I want other enthusiasts to also be able to.

That's going to become more difficult as more collectors start hiding them away as investments, second hand parts dry up and prices go through the roof.

In terms of keeping these cars on the road and enjoying them, there's nothing positive about prices going the way of the 205's

I think it’s all relative though mate. 23k to some people is pocket change. They read a magazine article which declares the Trophy as the best modern hot hatch etc and they go straight out and buy one.

They dont want to get involved in cars with 80k plus miles on them that begin at 13k so they just go and buy one at the top of the market.

When they buy it, it’s flavour of the week for a wee while, they drive it about but as soon as the shine wears off, it goes in garage with the rest of the collection never to turn a wheel again.

People buy later cars looking to put them into a collection and make money, I just think that if you've got 20k for a Clio you've got 50k for something better... if that makes sense.

I remember looking at an Escort Coswoth in the local paper which was up for 10k thinking it was really expensive... wish I had 10k to buy it.... Now I really wish I had the 10k to buy it back then!

FRONT DAMPERS -

The front shocks are not 182 Trophy shocks from factory.

They are Twingo R1 60mm Sachs shocks.

Cause you could not buy the genuine 182 Trophy shock with the part number 8200 people then started to buy up the Twingo R1 60mm Sachs damper with 77111 part number.

All be it they are both 60mm Sachs dampers and are almost identical the Twingo damper was slightly better cause it came with a scrapper seal as these where used for the Twingo Rally cars.


REAR DAMPERS -

The rear dampers from factory where all silver / grey to match the fronts, As these where from a Clio Mk2 they also came with a 82 part number.
These dampers went NLR and the part number superseded over to standard 1.2 Clio damper or a standard road going car.

After months of messing about Renault decided to produce the rear Sachs damper to match the front damper, This time it came in black with the OE Sachs sticker on it.

I believe there is not many standard Trophy's running the original silver / grey rear dampers now and most people are either running the new black version of Sachs, Cup dampers or koni dampers.

My point is these guys already have the 911s, Cosworths and CSLs etc. A nice Clio is just one of many to them. As long as these cars are going up in value, even marginally, these guys are happy to just let the cars sit in the garage

Unfortunately I cannot offer an experienced answer, although it would be very nice to be in a position to be able to buy a 23k Clio out of my pocket change.

I still remember my dad showing me a Z3M in phoenix yellow for 7k in Auto Trader. f**k our lives.

The coupe? I always well wanted one, always thought they were special - in fact I used to look at them when they were 10k ish and think - I bet they will be worth loads one day... and I still never tried to buy 10 - what a mong.
